Hunting cool.

So, I ran the TT up to the Blue Ridge Parkway this morning. Set it up, and will take DW and the GB up this evening. Julian Price Park. Our campsite is at 3450 feet. Just befor I started back down. The temp was 69 degrees. When I got to the bottom on the hill, It was 88 degrees. SO. I think I found it. Cool I mean.

This is why we have the 3000' rule. Never camp below 3000' in the summer.
  • Great!

You might also try Balsam Mtn in GRSM NP, or Mile High on the Cherokee res. Both are about 5000 ft.
  • We live at 3200 feet at the base of 6000 foot Roan Mtn

In general, Charlotte and that area is always 10 degrees warmer than here.
And at the top of the Roan it is always 10 degrees cooler then here.

  • Yeah I think the rule of thumb is 4 degrees F for every 1000 ft you go up....but that is in the same spot.
  • I went down to Colorado Springs today and just about melted. The temps were in the mid to upper 80's. The Springs sits at about 6000 feet and we live at 9100 feet. Our temps are always 10-15 degrees cooler.
  • you think being in the 80's is hot
you really would have melted being here
last week we had 100+ all week
several days set new records, 108 109, 106 etc..
last couple of days have been in the 80's, about 20* cooler than last week

I can't WAIT for it to be 80s again! Haha. It's been over 100 here for two weeks. And I live at 4000
  • Last fall on our long Idaho trip, we watched the wx/temp forecasts closely. Too hot, go up the mountain, cool, head to a valley.
  • The rule of thumb is you will lose 5 degrees Fahrenheit or 3 Celsius for every 1000ft of altitude.
