Ice Maker

With the ice bin near full, a day or so before we pack up to head home, I turn the water off to the ice maker. I keep the ice maker on, figuring any ice in it would be cycled out. The day we leave, I raise the ice maker arm, thus shutting it off.

When we get home, I shut the fridge off (unless we plan on heading out again in a few weeks) and empty the fridge and freezer. I prop the doors open. I place towels in the freezer to soak up any condensate. After the fridge has come to room temp, I find a small puddle of water remaining in the ice maker.

Now my question: does anyone do anything about this puddle of water? Is it something to be concerned with? I've been twisting a corner of a towel and sticking it into the ice maker to act as a wick drawing the water out (works pretty well).

When the fill tube split I ripped the U-matic out and took adavntage of the addes space in the freezer

Use a small counter top unit Works great
  • I use a turkey baster (cut in half to fit) from the dollar store.

    Good idea.
  • I keep the doors propped open so that small bit of remaining water will evaporate in a few days.
