Jack knife sofa

The fifth wheel we are buying only comes with a jack knife sofa in the mid bunk. Only option...we tried. So has anyone figured out how to make it comfortable for sleeping? We will be in one place for a couple of years so we may take it out and replace with some sort of bed when my daughter, 20, comes live with us for a little while. If we cant figure something else out.

Thanks everyone. Don't mind torturing my 20 year old daughter for a while...lol. Get my revenge. I'll see how she likes it then look for a mattress that will fit if she can't sleep on it.

But where are you going to store the mattress when it is a sofa?

In the storage area under the couch.

Don't know if you are buying new or used but I can tell you on a used one they get tired.

And here is why. The under carriage of the frame is mostly plywood framing, particle board and a couple of 1x's. Which over time sags and splits and pulls apart where it is attached to the wall was just a joke.

I had an RV Mobile Repair guy point that out to me. He took the whole couch out and rebuilt a new frame with 2x4's and changed out how it was attached to the walls.

What a BIG difference in comfort when opened and closed.

I'm pretty sure that the couch in my rig was originally used as a medieval torture device. Its even uncomfortable to sit on. So was the short queen in the bedroom. I went to "The Original Mattress Factory" near me. They make mattresses to order. If you're interested in looking, there are 6 of them in Florida. Just Google "Original Mattress Factory". Their made to order mattresses are no more expensive than a big box store's mattress department. I sleep like a baby on mine. (Wetting the bed and crying).

I have not tried this but read here that someone slit a swimming noodle down the cent and laid the pieces in the crack. Than place an air mattress, foam mattress or sleeping bag over it and you cannot tell it is there. It sounds like it might work.
