Just got toad back 2012 Focus

Well it finally happened. Transmission had been making a noise?? kind of a dragging sound. Wife drives it and I occasionally get to ride in it. She had been telling me Hey something don't sound right I finally went with her and I agreed. After really DRIVING it I noticed that the transmission seemed to slip. Took it to dealer and low and behold two days later new clutches and seals. Over $1,100.00. Seems to drive better today. Shifts smooth as it did when new. 14,000 miles. No mention of towing from dealer even though it was very obvious we tow it. No questions and best wishes. The manager did say that Ford was having problems with this. Any way just thought I would post this anyway. Not sure towing had anything to do with it but Ford took care of it. Larry
  • Well its back to the shop Monday. Tranny slips as bad today if not worse then before it was (repaired!!!). Update to follow Larry
  • The Focus was scratched off our list, when I saw that you have to disconnect the battery whenever you tow it. Don't want anything to do with that.

You have been disconnecting the battery when towing it, right? If not, that may be why you fried the tranny, as major transmission damage has been known to occur with those if battery isn't disconnected.

This was one reason why we chose the Fusion hybrid over the Focus. No battery to disconnect, no fuses to pull, no need to start up engine every so often, none of that stuff. Just put it in neutral and go, tow as long and as far as you want, up to 70mph. Mileage is pretty much unbeatable, too.

Anyway, glad to hear that Ford picked up the bill for you this time.
  • B's Bunch, that sounds better. That 2011 jumped out at me because I have been checking out toads with auto trannies, with the Focus and Fiesta being main candidates, and I had eliminated the 2011 Focus from my list.

According to Ford towing guide on page 15, the 2011 Focus automatic is not towable 4 down. What does your owners manual say?
You are right my bad It is a 2012 I need to start reading my post better before I print. It is towable by the way. Larry
  • Yes covered warranty, and yes towable 4 down. 14,000 miles with aprox. 2,800 tow miles.
  • so does the owner's manual give towing instructions and says it's OK.
    bumpy
  • Are you saying that it cost you $1,100 or that Ford paid for the repairs?
