One f our favorite parks is on a lake. Avg daytime highs in the 70-80s.Usually a bit of wind in the day keeps bugs at bay when the sun is out but in the evenings skeeters come acalling sometimes biting flies, Campfire or not.I had thought of box fans but they don't look great and you would have to put two facing the same way at opposite ends of the awning, perhaps two at each end one on top of the other.Has anyone come up with a unique solution..other than loud fans?

Get yourself a Thermacell. If you are going to use it a lot look at the backpack version. The fuel is cheaper.

What about screening that attaches to the awning? Some work to setup, but if you know you are going to need it...

I put a cord/switch on the squirrel cage out of a furnace. In hot weather it goes with. Not very pretty, but moves a lot of air. Not sure if it matters, but if it is not on rain water does not get in the motor.

We too use a Thermacell and Off mosquito lamp in multiple places around our site and it works.

Another vote for thermacell, say goodbye to skeeters.

Usually they are out bad just before dark. After dark they usually stay away unless you are walking thru grass. We have also found that having a rug down seems to help.

I have been using a Thermacell for about 5 years now. Super happy with it. It works well.

Screen rooms are great, but you do need to spray inside to get rid of the bugs that sneak in !

We have been using a Termacell for years.
Put it at your picnic table or where ever you sit about ten minutes prior to sitting and as long as there is no wind you won't have any bugs. they are good for about a fifteen foot diameter circle.

Just a quick comment on the Clam Quick-Set. They set up quick-easy and keeps the bugs away. But on the down side when it’s hot out even with a 5-10 mph wind has hardly any air flow through the screen side so that make them hot to sit in. We’re camping now with it set up and have to keep a fan running on high inside to to make it bearable just to sit in to eat.

Many, many years ago when we camped in a pop up with our pre-teen children (they are in their 30s now) we used to use Shell No Pest strips inside. Always had quite a few bugs to sweep up in the morning but you did not have mosquito buzzing in your ear while you were trying to sleep !

Anything on the market these days for indoor use ?

Thermacell is approved by EPA, but you need to use it away from uncovered food while operating it. It’s also important to avoid directly inhaling its vapor because of the allethrin that it contains. Allethrin is toxic to bees, cats, and fish, therefore, avoid exposing it to these creatures.
