KVH satellite worth using

not sure where to post this. our fifth wheel came with a KVH satellite dome on top and as we have dish at home we went ahead and had it set up for the camper as well. we have only used it twice out there and so far to me the KVH dome is a hastle. I am thinking about just not using it at getting one of the dishes that you just set up out in the grass on a tri pod. the two times we used the dome if it would even think about raining we would loose our signal and even the morning dew would block the signal and I think that the manual said something about the dew could block the signal and to wipe it off. our frinds have just the standard tri pod dish and they have no issues with it. so my question is does anyone else have a KVH satellite and have these same issues.

update!! went up and cleaned the dome. it was black before I cleaned it and now it is nice and white. turned out that it was just extremely dirty. after a good cleaning the signal will stay on all night now.

our camper has three coax connections .... one for the roof mounted dish, one for both the over air antenna and park cable, and one for the portable dish .... the booster button should be on for over the air signals and off for park cable

now another question related to this one. on the outside of my trailer it has the cable and sat prep. the cable input is next to the phone jack and the sat prep is below that. I know that for cable you turn off the booster but how would you go about using the sat prep. inside the media cabnet there are two jacks. one for the KVH dome and the other for the antenna.

yeah. I think I will buy a portable dish also. just this past weekend I know I had to do the point dish at least 2 times each day and that gets to be a pain. and the noise it makes when it moves our camping group has nicknamed the dome as being a ufo landing.

we have a different brand roof mounted dish but KVH has a good name .... don't know about your luck but for us, if there is a single tree in the CG it will be between us and a clear view of the southern sky .... for that reason it is wise to take along a portable dish, we have found a VuQube serves us well .... no issues with dew or a light rain but just as with our roof mounted dish at home, the signal can be interrupted by a heavy storm .... knowing what I know now, I would not have installed the camper's roof mounted dish but since its there we use it as much as possible

I had a satellite dome installed on my "C" when I first bought it. Turns out that it doesn't see through trees very well and almost all CGs have trees. Since then, I've found that most all FHU CGs have cable so I live with that.
