Labor Day Horror Stories

There are only 3 weekends that we will not go camping: Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day.

So let's hear from all those that were camping this weekend:

1. Outside speakers and loud music;
2. Late night parties;
3. Drunk, rowdy, and "hold my beer and watch this";
4. Kids screaming, running through my site, etc.;
5. Dog was loud, unleashed, or pooped in my site;
6. I left stuff outside and it was stolen;
7. CG was a dump, owner was nasty;
8. Traffic was terrible and nobody respects RV drivers;
9. Neighbor ran an open-frame worksite generator all weekend;
10. My (fill in equipment here) broke and ruined the trip.

Who wants to go first? Special prize if you can check "all of the above" LOL.

In my opinion there are three types of Camping/RVing of which I have 3 different expectations. We normally connect vacations with holidays giving us a longer stay.

1. Staying in a private RV park which is what we did this weekend in Branson, MO. The spots are close together and have full hookups. I really do not consider this camping, it is staying in the RV instead of a hotel in town. We normally eat out most meals, eat in the RV some but do not cook outside. People are usually pretty easy going. The spots are small but we don't usually spend that much time outside the RV. Maybe a little while in the late afternoon watching people fishing and walking the dogs. The guy next door ask if it was OK to park his boat which would be 3 feet or so over in my spot which was fine with me. I expect this type to be crowded but we just roll with flow. We had a great time and no problems other than a couple of barking dogs but that did not last long.

2. Staying in a State Park or COE campground. This is Camping, cooking outside, hiking, fishing. Sometimes we may drive into town for a meal if we want a break. We wants lots of room and more privacy. If people are out of line the rangers usually handle it pretty quick. In this case I am usually not as tolerant with rude people and expect others to be more respectful.

3. Boon-docking in the National Forest. We are usually at the end of a dead end road in the middle of nowhere. This is camping at its finest. If you want to eat you have to cook as its at least 30 miles to the nearest store. If someone comes down the road I expect them to turn around and leave unless they are an invited guest. We are prepared to handle any problems our self but have not had any in 40 years.

You get out of life what you put in to it. If you have problems every time you go camping then you probably need to look in the mirror.

No dogs, loud music,kids, or major malfunctions.
I did have words (and called the ranger) when I saw the guy next to me empty his waste tank into a tote but then walk to the lake to rinse out his sewer hose.

We always camp Labor Day weekend. DH and DS go to the races at Atlanta Motor Speedway and DD and I go shopping. We were at High Falls State Park and I will say it was a lovely time. Yes there were kids but they were riding bikes and such on the road. They was not any loud parties, drunken people or people walking through sites.

Guess it depends on where you go but I have camped at several state parks in GA over holiday weekends and never really experienced any craziness.

We went for the whole week and came home on Saturday. Also no problems. We've never had a problem on holiday's either and only camp at state parks.

A day into our trip, two A-10 Warthogs flew real low and slow over the beach, so close I could see the pilots. That was neat.

We're fulltimers and generally avoid campgrounds on holidays, but, long story short, we were in one this weekend. All was peaceful because it poured rain everyday.

That dance really works!

Obviously holiday weekends are the busiest but we have rarely encountered any issues that were not readily resolved by park officials. Anyway, we prefer boondocking and had a wonderful time this past weekend where we didn't have to spend our time worrying if the neighbors approved.

Someone had to move trains this weekend, so no camping for me. But, made it to Six Flags New England after I got out of work Sunday morning.

My camp trip was great. Jessie M. Honeyman Memorial State Park in OR is a nice park.

My only problem came at the dump station. A real nasty lady (swearing at everyone) and her family tried to cut in line at the dump station. She tried to cut around 10 of us who had been waiting there for a least 30 min. I had to us my truck and 5th wheel to block her. The ranger made her driver all the way to the back of the line. I got the 1 finger salute when they left. I think I ruined her day. The other campers thanked me for standing my ground with her.

My biggest issue with those dates, the need to plan way early to reserve a site. Wait too long, you camp at home. We use to go on a week long trip during Labor day, but a few years ago it was packed downtown Estes Park and couldn't even park. Told DW that we were done and we slipped our vacation by a month now days.

The only unruliness we experienced this weekend was the limb that came crashing down at 8 am after an all night monsoon.
