Lippert hydraulic slideouts creeping during travel

l am having a problem with slideouts creeping out during travel on my 2016 Bighorn. I know it is a warranty issue but I seem to get blank stares and comments from repair facilities about it being a big complicated job to troubleshoot...we are on the road and can't leave the rig. I can wait till I get home...but it seems like magic to so many of the dealerships I have talked to.

So my question is, does anyone have experience diagnosing the issue and is it really that hard and time consuming? Does the fact that it is both hydraulic slides creeping out narrow down the possible suspects?

Is it something the average rv owner can handle at a campsite etc...special tools needed etc.

I don't know much about hydraulics, but feel the need to learn.
  • When we still owned our Montana we had a similar problem. Our bedroom slide would come out while traveling, called the dealer and he had me check the fluid level which was slightly low but not bad. I added fluid and the problem went a away for awhile, then reappeared! After much searching the dealer found a loose fitting on the cylinder under our bed.

The OP's problem is most likely a leak somewhere the big question is where. I'd have a competent repair service look into the problem. It's fixable for sure.

  • I had the same problem, talked to Lippert and they said it would cost me $5000 to fix by replacing the complete unit. This was there fix for the problem. So I decided to pull the cylinder out and have it checked by a hydraulic shop there was no problem there. Removed the solenoid for that slide and checked the oring which looked ok, had a company that could test the solenoid test it and low and behold the 5 cent oring was no good and leaking. Lipperts fix $5000, my fix and a little time 5 cents and a little gas. Hope this helps some of you.
  • On my Wildcat the bedroom slide would creep out, I found solenoid valve top had worked loose, don't know if that is the proper term, mine was located in the lines from the pump, the top is black plastic and I tighten them, clockwise, by hand. Every once in a while it will creep out again while in storage, I run it in all the way then tighten up the valve. When it first happened I emailed Lippert and this is what the tech told me to do.

  • If you plan on trying to repair it yourself, call Lippertand they will walk you through the diagnosis. If it's under warranty the dealer can call Lippert for assistance.
I have a Montana with 4 slides that was doing the same thing. The dealer tried to repair without contacting Lippert and ended up replacing the valve body, the control Body, and outside switch panel, none of which worked. They had my camper for nearly 4 months before they finally called Lippert. The techs at Lippert told them how to test the Hydraulic Rams and they found 2 that were leaking past the seals, no external leak, after getting 2 new Rams the problem was solved. I've had no problems since.
  • X2 on what buc1980 said. Check your fluid tank first. We had some slight seeping from our connections and the front started dropping. Ours was 2 quarts low. Check it when hooked up, all slides and legs in/up. It should be about 3/4" from the top.
