Lost Generator Exhaust

Well, actually, I didn't lose it I still have it but it's not attached. I have 2012 Sunseeker 2450, if that matters. Where would I go to have someone weld it back on or is it more involved than that?

Thanks for any help,

Sharon
  • No welding. It wasn"t welded in the first place was it? Clamps. We have an Emerald and it is a bear to fix but you clamp the down pipr to the bolted adapter and then put the bolts into the engine. 1/2 " socket wrench if I rembember.
  • I was underneath mine yesterday fixing something and I bumped the exhaust pipe with my shoulder and it came off and hit me on the head... Happy it fell off in the driveway and not down the street. Mine (Onan 4.0) attached via an exhaust clamp to the muffler port. Not that easy to get to either. I am going to get an exhaust hanger and use it as a secondary measure to prevent it from vibration off again.

If it's an Onan from the Micro-series (2500 thru 4000), your top clamp may just have come loose. Pretty much any auto shop can fix it, if that's it. But it is in an awkward spot, and if the clamp is actually gone, it may take some looking to find one that small.

Be sure to not run your generator until its fixed - The exhaust pipe is there for a reason...

  • You might consider an Onan exhaust resonator for about $40. It doesn't affect the warranty, and cuts way down on the genset noise.

  • look in your local area for a welding shop. take the whole rv if you can, let a pro figure out the best way to make a good quality repair. a rv dealer would be the last place to take it. or if just the exhaust pipe or muffler fell off a local muffler shop.
