Lost home to health issues, moving south to look for work..

Well my life did not turn out as I planned. Im 52 and have had health issues the past year and 1/2.

My wife and I decided to sell the house and get whatever equity out of it we could. Cant afford NJ anymore...

My plan now is for me to move south where its warmer. Im going alone down to South Carolina ( Conway ) . Im going to be living in my camper and trying to find work down there I can do, then find housing for the family and bring them down.

Someone down there I found online is letting me stay on their property until I sort it all out. Cheap rent but more then I can afford..

I would live in the camper with the wife but I have an 10 year old that needs to finish school somewhere. ( Im keeping them up at her fathers temporarily hopefully)

She needs to stay up here for now as she is the only one working and will support me best she can.

Not sure what internet ill have down there so I may not be online going into July. I close on the home around the 29th. Then ill be homeless...lol

Im a late baby boomer and had hep c and never knew it. With that and the harvoni they gave me to cure it the side effects are worse. Plus a bunch of autoimmune stuff I keep testing positive for. Lupus, epstein barr..etc. Joint pain and sleep all the time..

So im going to do my best living in this camper.

I should of saved my money and not of went to disney last year..lol.. But I though I had cirrhosis then and my fibro score was high.

Thats what I am dealing with now.

And you cant boon dock in the south as you need a/c so paying monthly for electric is a necessity,,,

I dont usually post personal info but possibly others have some ideas for a solution to my problem?

Applied for ssi disability but that's taking too long and I doubt ill get it... I have to get back to work, suffer through it and do the best I can.

All I can say is thank god I bought the camper and have this mini home to get me where I need to on the cheap...

Ill find my way hopefully : )

Thanks all...
  • Best to not dwell on med problems in an interview. Just say you had hep c recently but it's cured and you are recovering... and as for why the move, you can't afford NJ plus you are better off in Carolina's climate. Stay positive.

The disability may get approved, especially if you have to go before a judge later on and can explain why you cannot work. Let the lawyer guide you. An experienced disability firm knows the buzzwords and what not to say. My wife is on, and I was kind of surprised because I thought like you are thinking, that it would never happen.

Life never turns out as we plan. Sounds like you are dealing with it the best way possible. It’s all we can do. Good luck to you
  • Sorry to hear about your issues. You never know what curveball life is going to throw you, huh?

    Best of luck to you.
  • I had both fibro scan #'s com back f1 f2 and a2 a3... They gave me $90K worth of pills for 8 weeks.. The Harvoni is now messing me up as I am hep c free..I wish I read about it before I took the f ing pills..

But I thought I won the lottery when I got the pills for a 10 buck co pay.

    Im getting worse not better.

Severe arthritis in the neck and back. foggy head. Worse is the ringing in ears. very loud at night. Insomnia but when I sleep its often 12 hours. Then I wake up more tired. Then they gave me c pap machine... LOL.. But thats not my issue. Sleep apnea..

Like I said worse thing now that I havenot been working is having to sell the home I lived in for 15 years before they take it. Then I would of lost any kind of equity.. Its not much but at least ill have a little something once that money goes through.

I have no savings and did my life wrong. I have just enough now to get down south to look for work of somesort. should be $250 in fuel.

    Heys thanks for listening..
  • Yeah, she had severe leg swelling, ankles and calves, as well as a torn achilles, so they got the achilles and then started looking at liver .
Most docs dont seem to associate edema and liver, but thats how it often manifest from what we were told. Patients will be told they are dehydrated based on skin condition but retaining large quanities of water in their belly, and legs.
@ VCU Dr Sanyal is the department head for Hep, and also one of only a few US Docs that does a Fibroscan to locate liver issues.
  • I just started getting pitted edema a few months ago... I didnt think that was liver related..

On the shins.. Is that what you are referring?

Thanks for the info. Not sure if ill be getting to VA though.
  • Sorry for the issues. M'lady has just gone through the Cirrhosis and fibro scare, with severe Edema. All from NASH. If you are still looking for diagnostic help on this, VCU Medical center (Richmond Va) has one of a handful of specialist working on a new imaging method for liver issues, you may want to research it.

    Best of luck
