Magnetic tow lights

I put mine on the rear shelf inside the vehicle and they point out the rear window. I run the wire thru the interior of the car (it just lays on the seats and floor), open the passenger door and raise the hood and route the cable to the attachment point of the towbar going thru the lower front grill. I had to add about 6' of wire to accomplish this but it works great. They are just as visible in the back window as they would be outside. Never had any problem with law enforcement in any state I've been thru. I also had to screw a couple of pieces of 2 x 6 together and attach a 4" square blank electrical plate to the wood for the lights to magnetically attach to. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. :B

I built a light bar to go in my receiver on the back of my Toyota .Ran a permanent wire down the frame to the back and just plug in.Would post a pic but don't know how.

The Blazer wireless lights use 4 AA rechargables each. I picked up a charger and batteries at Walmart on sale.

There is a wire connecting the two lights but it is not a problem. I my case it is inside on the back window deck when I am using the lights so no paint damage.

The transmitter plugs into the MH trailer light recepticle (4 pin) and the magnetic transmitter attaches to the top of the hitch frame, right beside where it plugs in. I put it on top of the hitch frame to make sure it will not slide down on rough roads.

So far so good but my trips have been limited since getting the lights.

The big advantage for me is that I did not need to add any after market electrical components to an already complicated set of LED tail-lights. I don't have to pull fuses or add a fuse by-pass or any device to prevent brake light over-ride.

These wireless lights work very well for me, easy hook-up, no wires to run, easy take apart and they are not committed to any one vehicle. Plug and play.

I don't find it takes a big effort to remove the AA batteries from the lights, place them in a charger and forget about them till the next time I move the rig. I estimate maybe ten minutes of my time and time is the one thing I have for free.

I use them, route the wire into the rear hatch, through the passenger compartment and out the front edge of the front door. Can tuck it under the hood from there, bring it out at the top of the grill. Takes about 40 seconds to route the wire.

I'm on my fifth tow vehicle since starting to full time, and on this one I'm switching to the magnetic lights. First, the expense of the wiring kit and installation if you have it done is avoided. Second, when hooking up to depart int he morning and finding out your ground is gone bad and the light is too dim or the bulb is burned out it means delaying your departure. Third, most tow vehicles require either pulling a fuse or adding a hot wire to keep the battery from discharging, something not necessary with the magnetic lights. Last, in my case, the CRV requires drilling out the light sockets to add bulbs - too much trouble. I'll just stick on my lights each morning and hit the road.

We turn our cars in every two or three years. After paying to have the toad hard wired these wireless could pay for themselves the first purchase. After that they will fit any toad. Here are some To look at.

Those are cheaper than the commercial grade ones I looked at, but I'm wondering if it wouldn't be best for me to spend the extra money. The commercial ones had rechargeable batteries and there were no wires even between the two lights. How long of a life do you get out of the batteries?

Edit: I looked at the Youtube video and these Blazer lights seem to have a lot of wires for being wireless. Per the video you plug in the transmitter and then it has a wire and a magnet mount to mount the transmitter high on the tow vehicle. The back of my motorhome is all fiberglass, where do you mount it? The commercial grade unit just has a plug and the transmitter is built into the plug. There is no wire to it.

Just google Blazer wireless tow lights and you will find lots of retailers as well as You Tube videos showing them in use.

I should also mention I have a utility trailer that I tow my quads on and since that thing is store outside I usually have regular problems keeping the lights working on the thing. These wireless lights would be very good for that application too.

I have never heard of wireless tow lights. I just did a quick google search and see some in the $350 price range. They have LED lights, lithium ion batteries, and say they last up to 20 hours on a charge. That would cover about 98% of my use. I also checked the Home Depot website and don't see any wireless ones listed. What types of these are others using? I don't mind paying $350 for a good commercial quality set that will last, but I'm wondering what others are using.
