MH crashes into home in Florida I75

we had 3 blowouts on our moho - finally on the 3rd one, the insurance company had me send them the blown tire - it was determined to be defective. We rec'd all of our money back from the previous deductibles from the tire mfr + they had to reimburse the ins co for the payouts on damage. They replaced all the tires that had been purchased at that time.

Had the DW been in the car freaking, we might have ended in a ditch. I wonder in this case if something similar might have happened that caused the off roading?

According to the article I think hitting the advertising sign poles had a big play in catapulting the MH down off the road into the house.

At that point the driver may already been knocked out. Seeing as there is NO front end to a Class A to absorb any type of impact. Not to mention that those huge glass windshield explode at a mere 20 mph impact.

What I have noticed since moving to Florida is none of the roads here have ditches/culvets. The ground is even up to the roads and many do not even have a substantial gravel space between them.

Up North all roads have substantial gravel sides and deep culverts. You fall off the road you are shoved right into the culverts.

Lived all my life up North and I don't remember ever seeing a news report of someone driving a car into a home.

Heck here in Florida almost 'every single day' on the news it shows a car impaled into a home or business. Because there are NO ditches/culverts to stop them. It's clear sailing right into a building along side the road.

From the looks of the ground, the MH might have been doing a power slide into the house. It would be interesting to hear exactly what happened. My fear is more of the DW freaking out, than a blowout. Its when she freaks, that freaks me out, I have to constantly remind her I am in control...just close your eyes or something, and this is just driving my truck! (don't have a mh)

The worst that has happened to me was while driving a car. Taking my 2 little ones to the apple orchard, just me and them. 2 lane highway, approaching car had all the lug nuts shear off his back wheel, which as he is pulling to the shoulder the wheel is flying off my side of the road. What I didn't see was a lugnut headed for my windshield at face level, directly in front of my face. Hit the windshield and smashed about a face sized area in front of me. I slowed down, got off to the shoulder...little ones had no idea it happened. Thankfully the WS held up, and I didn't get a mouthful of lugnut.

I've had RV left front and sedan right rear blowouts. In both cases I was on a curve in the road, and the blowouts did not alter the direction of travel (left front tire on right hand curve in RV, right rear tire on right hand turn in sedan), nor did they change my momentum. I kept steering to follow the road, and immediately used the brakes to slow down and get off onto the side of the road. What is the factor that would make you change direction when you have a blowout? The only thing I can think of is a poorly designed suspension and steering system, or yanking on the steering wheel in a panic attack. Also, I was going 55mph in the RV, and around 100 mph in the sedan (on a German Autobahn). The immediate affect of the blowouts was noise, not any affect on the steering or direction of travel.

Those of you have who have experienced blowouts, what happened to you as a driver?

Oh yeah, I also had a blowout in a Corvair, and it was unsafe at any speed.

I've had a front blow out on our old coach -- the noise scared me... but was able to easily pull over to the side. Had a rear blow out and pulled over without any issue, although it did a job on the bodywork.
Hit some road debris once and took out the duals on one side. Again, no issue.... took the single spare I had and put it on and limped off the highway to the nearest tire shop/

Well by the time you have run off the road over a sign and thru a tree and are heading into a house I think hitting the brakes can only help. And what about slowing down to limit accidents and amount of damage and injuries.

You would be surprised how easy it is to knock the entire rear cap off a MH, 5er or TT. Saw a guy do it once trying to pull into a rally parking spot (a Newmar).

Of course sideswiping a tree would definitely knock the rear cap loose on one side.

one more reason i drive at 58 mph. i have seen class a's going 70 on I75

Interesting that when you run into a house that the back falls off.
