Military/DoD Are you active duty, retired or a veteran?

Most other RV forums have a specific section for military.

Pearl Harbor day seems like a good time to see who out here has a military background.

So, if you please, reply with your branch and current status:

For myself, I'm a Navy veteran and retired Navy DoD

Hubby is retired Navy and retired Navy DoD

Together we have over 70 years of military service.

USAF from 1983 to 1996. Public Affairs Specialist stateside, Radio/Television Broadcast Specialist (think "Good Morning Vietnam") while overseas. Served in Turkey, Spain, Germany, The Netherlands with stateside assignments in California and Florida. Medically retired to to service connected injury. Would go back and do my job for free if they would have me. Best move I ever made besides marrying my wife was joining the Air Force. If I hadn't joined the Air Force, I would have never met my wife, an Air Force veteran herself.

A gentleman at the other end of my subdivision might disagree about Schweinfurt. But then, he only saw it from 6 miles up, back in Oct 1943.

He was a flight engineer on board a Boeing B17 from the 8th Air Force.

His ship was badly shot up, including fatalities. He said they landed on an emergency air field in England, flying on 2 engines and fumes.

I miss schweinfurt like crazy sometimes. A great place to be when I was single. Even moved back for a bit when I ETSd.

I came out of boot camp as an e3 cause I was into it, and out of aviation structural mechanic school as an e4 cause I was into it. Just to make coffee and occasionally gas up some old 4 prop cargo planes.

So once my hitch was up I used the GI bill to get a degree in electrical engineering and I have been supporting the defense industry ever since, 33 years and counting. It's been a great ride, and I would do it over again and again.

Thought I had posted already but can't find it. USMC 1974-1978 Ground Radio Repair Sgt. The Marines gave me my electronics education that got me my job in computers almost 35 years ago so can't complain!

I was on of the fortunate ones Nixon declared Vietnam over during second month of bootcamp! Whewww course took another year to actually to leave but I was in school for 14 months so missed it all.
