Hard drives are all the same. There is no such thing as a video hard drive. In fact, the new line of DirecTV DVRs uses easy to replace hard drives that are exactly the same as those in laptops. We leave our DVR running all the time and, after >30,000 miles of full-timing we have had no problems whatsoever.
