New 1986 Minnie Winnie strange problem

Guys, I just purchased a well maintained 1986 Minnie Winnie on a ford E-350 chassis.

Here is a puzzler.

When I fill up the fresh water tank or am on city water there are no leaks. When I fill up my grey water tank through normal use the toilet bowl fills up and I see a small drip comming from the bottom of the black water tank. I have read that older RV's can develop a leak at the top of the holding tank where the fittings become loose or the rubber hose develops a crack. I don't really know where the leak is coming from I just see the drip at the bottom of the tank underneath the RV. My question is why does my toilet fill up when I fill up the grey tank. I have two pull levers a large one for black water and a small one for grey water. Is this by design or is there something broken?

Thanks for shedding some light on this.

Ken

Update 8-6-14 I found that the sink in the bathroom drains directly in to the black tank.
  • Coincidental between the toilet and the grey tank. The only shared factor is time.

The black tank leak can be anywhere from the toilet seal and plumbing to the tank itself. You will need to investigate closer.

By design, your Winnie has two separate tank valves. This permits the draining of the two tanks independent from each other.
