Of course it is, everyone (most everyone that is does it). The only time you want to shut it down is when fueling your truck and then only when fueling, if the fridge is close to the fuel pump. Most people don't do that either thought they should.

Actually an ammonia fridge is most efficient when it's moving around. Helps with the internal flow of solution inside.

Yes, you can and nothing wrong with doing that. Although there are some who will argue the point. Functionally, (as stated above), the refrigerator works best when in movement.

From a different perspective, the long-debated-argument is... should RVers travel with their propane tanks turn on and should appliances be running on propane while in travel.

Lots of arguments and even "fights" on these forums about leaving the refrigerator running on propane while fueling at gas stations. There are those who insist on turning everything off when fueling, there are those who say they don't. There's the argument, that the trailer is 20 feet behind the tow vehicle and far enough away from the gas pump it doesn't matter, and then there is always the ONLY one that actually occurred when someone driving a motor home fill with gas and spilled the handle on the gas pump across the refrigerator vent and it caught fire. (DUH!)

But, we always have the refrigerator on propane when traveling. Won't do it any other way, and so far, I've not blown up any gas stations in 30 years of RV ownership.

Being new at this, you might want to consider which sub-forum you put your posts into in the future.

A refrigerator question doesn't fit too good in "Roads and routes"; having it in a better place might get you more/better answers....in general.

The YES answers are correct. The "standard" recommendation is that you shut it OFF while re-fueling, either the chassis fuel tank OR the propane.

Fridge is turned on the day before we leave and is never turned off until we return home.

Actually, next season, I'll relegate the necessary to be refrigerated and frozen stuff to the Dometic Cool Box I am going to buy this winter and leave the fridge off when travelling. The Cool Box will reside on the back seat of the truck until I get to where I'm going and then I'll fire up the RV fridge and load it with the pre-chilled and frozen stuff from the Cool Box. The Cool box is much more efficient that the fridge is plus it will be more handy in the backseat versus in the camper.

:h I think I'd save the money for repairs if needed for the fridge, nice to relax when I get to the camp, not to continue loading the trailer.

I have always used the propane unless I decide to run the generator for the roof air, then it's on electric anyhow.

IF the propane system features/safety devices are not sufficient for safe operation of an LP Appliance while in transit I would not use it while stationary and asleep

YES.....you can operate the fridge on propane while traveling

Same for furnace (water heater also if there was a need for hot water at rest stops or immediately upon arrival)

Propane appliances have safety interlocks and the propane system as safety features ---all of which truly minimize propane dangers.
