- old_guyExplorerthe oil boom in ND reminds me of the Alaskan gold rush and the many people who died from freezing to death.
- mlts22ExplorerI can see that. It takes preparation to camp in NoDak starting in July, and one mistake, and you have no water until spring/summer, or have to leave because the camper becomes uninhabitable.
Even with a "four seasons" rig, it will still require skirting, heat tape, heat pads for the propane tank, and many other items to keep all the plumbing above the freezing mark.
There is an oil boom here in Texas as well. It may not have as many openings, but dealing with occasional sub-freezing lows is a lot easier in a RV here. - tkcas01ExplorerOne solution to winterizing RVs: ND Indoor RV Park.

Holy doodle....that looks like one of those rental storage buildings, and check the rates...yikeS!!!
Gary Haupt - mpierceExplorerIt was -27F here at my farm in ND. You better have LOTS of insulation and heat in an RV to be comfortable at that temp! Propane and electric bills go thru the roof.
- pnicholsExplorer IItkcas01,
What's in that link is an outstanding business concept. I hope the business owners make it long term. Even permanent residents in very cold parts of the country might switch to an RV parked in these "RV condos" for less expensive living! - Homer1ExplorerI agree with pnickles: I imagine the cost is high, but the adavantages would make a lot of difference to people that cannot come up with the down payment for a stick and brick residence. I would be of interest to me to travel anywhere in the North in the winter. Summer would not all that bad either. Hope the concept survives. Fire would be my greatest concern.
- Old-BiscuitExplorer IIIThe oilfield ain't for sissies especially in the winter.
Doesn't take long to cull the herd.
And winter has just begun......... - Snowman9000ExplorerGood idea, but boy, it'd be like living in a dark box inside a cave. Better than fighting the elements though.
- kab449ExplorerWonder if the indoor RV park require all coaches to be total electric? Propane and indoors doesn't cut it.
