What pharmacy are you currently using? I use CVS, and I can get mine filled most anywhere. I also get 90 day supplies, so I'm usually back home before running out.

Last time I ran out I needed a new RX from the Dr. You tell the doc what CVS you want to use and it's just like if you were home.

You don't even need to deal with the doc. Just call the CVS where you're located and give them the prescription number. They'll arrange everything for you.

As said, any nationwide chain can refill them, no problem. Just be careful if you get a 90 day supply by mail that they DON’T mail them to your home address. Happened to me once and I had to get an additional supply where I was in FL. Had a devil of a time sorting that “oversupply” out with the insurance company.

As a 60 year old man who's wife has just retired we are planning , of course , to take RV trips. We live in Southern California so any where is a LONG ways from home.
Problem is how do people get their controlled prescriptions filled if they are away from home ???
There has to be other seniors out there with the same dilemma.

Getting prescriptions is not a problem if you use a chain Drug store i.e. Wallgreens. I use Wallgreens when I am on the road & out of state. I just go into the Wallgreens located in the state, city I am located and request to fill my prescriptions and they contact my home Wallgreen Drug store via the phone/internet and then I just pay for the prescriptions. I also went to the Wallgreen web site and opened up a online pharmacy account. Then I get a notification (email) letting me know when it is time to pick up my prescriptions. Wallgreens takes care of all my prescriptions so I don't have to constantly keep track of all of my prescriptions and when they are ready for pick up.
I do the same thing with monthly bills. i.e. gas/electric, Dish or Direct, Internet service, trash etc etc. I have my bank set up a "Direct pay" for the above bills. Then I don't have to worry about forgetting to pay a bill or worry about missing a payment and having the service cut off.
For security of the house, I have a complete Security alarm system that is hooked up directly with the police and the fire dept. About $2000 to 4000 and then a monthly payment of about $25. IMHO, money well spent for peace of mind.

I'm not sure everyone noticed the word controlled.
That sure can complicate it.
First thing is that my wife's doctor won't write some of the controlled prescriptions for more than 30 days.
They can be transferred to another place (Walmart), but only once, so she can't even transfer them back home.

She has been planning ahead and has her doctor write paper prescriptions that she takes with her when we travel.
We do not full time, so it's not a big deal unless we are gone more than 60 days.

Dumped CVS and went back to Walgreens. Think there re more of them also.

Is this policy regarding prescriptions for "Controlled drugs" true for all Doctors or just your specific Doctor. If it is just your specific doctor, then I might think about changing doctors just for that specific drug prescription.

With my kids' add medicine for instance, the doctor writes 3 prescriptions at a time, dates them in the future and then writes on them "may fill on... Date).

OP means controlled substances, in which you need a hard copy prescription and it needs to be filled within like 7 days. They are only written for 30 days. Each refill needs a new hard copy prescription.
