Pogo stick Chevy

Just picked up a new 5th wheel. Pulling it with a '09, 2500 HD Chevy. Using a Curt 20K hitch. I have Rancho 5000 adjustable shocks all around. I cranked the shocks all the way up. I noticed quite a bit of bouncing in the rear on the bridge overpasses and other rough areas.

I would really like to cut down on the bounce. Any suggestions??

Thanks that was Junior back about 14 years ago. Sad to say we lost all 3 within 18 months.

We keep thinking about taking the plunge but Britts take a lot of "encouragement".

Thanks to all for the info on the bags. I think that is the ticket now to figure out which ones to get. I know Firestone has one with a "no drill" kit. Looked pretty easy to install.

I have a 35' bumper pull on a Ram 2500. I added Stable Loads. They are relatively cheap and made a huge difference. I am getting ready to replace the shocks. How do you like the Ranchos? Are they easy to adjust? If the are cranked up all the way how do they ride unloaded? Thanks,Mike

Ranchos are ok, much better than the factory Bilteins. I was pulling a 29' Wildwood with a Equal-i-zer hitch. Worked well when turned all the way up. It's a PITA to reach down and dial them up and down but if that's what you have to do. Very firm ride when no load.
  • Rancho 9000's, even cranked all the way up, don't provide as much damping as a good Monotube shock. Rancho makes one now, but the most popular is Bilstein. Other brands include Fox and KYB.

Beware of airbags. They can also worsen bounce, as they provide zero internal damping (even leaf springs have a little but due to friction). They have their place. I run them. But adding motion control isn't really what they are designed for.
  • Air bags made a big difference on the "bounce" on my Tundra. Made the ride much firmer when loaded. Huge improvement...

My brother equipped his HD2500 with a level ride suspension, difference of night and day. Smooth as can be.
