portable RV waste tanks
Will be needing a portable RV waste tank when we are campground hosts. Any suggestions on which one to purchase? Would appreciate pros and cons of whichever one you have used. Thanks.

I had one of those with my last TT. I will be buying another for my current POP UP. They are a great value. Ours was used daily for about three or four months plus all the other camping trips we took.
The tires are better than barkers out of the box...very quiet... and side by side with my friends barker mine felt tougher. May be splitting hairs here but the Tote-n-store is a great portable tote.

Jeremiah- We have the smart-tote 35 gallon Thetford. It hooks to our truck hitch. Just don't let it get too full.

I will be buying one for my new camper. - One thing that I don't see mentioned here. We have been using our large Thetford for many years - but only for gray water. It is just the two of us, and it would take a very long time for us to fill the black water tank. We deal with the black water when we get to a dump station. You may already know this, but you can leave your gray water valve open with the tank attached. You can't leave your black water open. The solids will just hit the bottom of the holding tank and only the liquid will drain.

Only have had one - Thetford 35 gal, 4 wheel style. We found ourselves at a campsite in Tucson area without hookups, only a central dump station. I checked the local Craigslist and found one for $50, apparently the original owners purchased it but didn't use it. The new ones are expensive I think. The thing worked like a champ for a 5 week stay (multiple trips to the dump station) - I do think if they used pneumatic tires that would be a nice improvement to have but regardless it sure beats breaking camp and towing the 5th wheel 2 blocks just to dump.- I just bought a store and tote 32 gallon thetford. I used it 6 or 7 times on our last trip. It has 2 wheels on one end. I am stouter then the average guy (to many years in the gym) and I can tell you that is all I wanted to do was to lift almost 300 lbs of water and drag it to my truck. The unit itself worked great but it was heavy. I actually tied a rope with a plastic tubing for a handle just short of my waist to make it to where I didn't have to lift it that far off the ground. Buy what seems to work for you
- We have 27 gallon Thetford. The 35 gallon would have just been to heavy. Never has been messy filling or dumping and the new ones are supposed to have better wheels.
- We'll be at a state park in SC. There are no sewered sites and no honey wagon! Ergo, the need for a portable tank! The park is only 17 sites and it's right on a lake - beautiful, and we'll be there late summer - early fall! Best time of the year! Worth the hassle to us for sure! Thanks everyone for the input. Greatly appreciated.
- Another vote for Barker. I have a 42 gallon Barker. The new units now come from the factory with quiet pneumatic rubber wheels. No upgrade required.
