Do you know if you have circuit breaker type fuse or a regular fuse installed between the converter and the battery terminals. This will be real close to the battery terminals.. The circuit breaker didn't normally show up with the older models.
You need to put a multimeter on the battery terminals and see what is happening. The older converter/chargers put a continuous 13.6VDC. I would check the battery fluids in your battery as it could be one of the battery cells is shorting out...
give us the model number of your converter/charger unit.
