Pressure valve and city water hookup

I need some help. This past winter I winterized my trailer by blowing out the water lines with my air compressor and pouring a gallon of RV anti-freese into the traps. That worked fine except I blow out what I think was a pressure valve in the city water hookup, now I have to replace this value because I am unable to hook-up to city water. What I want to know is, is this a new feature and do I still need to use an outside pressure valve? My dad always blow out his water lines and I don't recall ever having this problem.
  • Little off topic here, but we quit hooking up directly to "city water" and fill the fresh water tank and use the on-board pump. Reason? We've been to a few KOA's in the last year and their water pressure is pretty high. Fortunate they warned us before settling in camp. I don't trust my 10 (plus) year old regulator any more, and after thinking about it, I really don't want to take chances blowing out my water lines or joints in my camper. So, decided to simply fill the tank and run the pump, which is designed with the appropriate pressure. No worries, no problems. To each his own.

For the OP, the valve inside the fill connection can probably be fixed easy as stated above with a screw driver.
  • What do you mean you blow out the valve? The city water inlet on mine has a spring loaded ball valve that can become dislodged, allowing water to flow either direction. I've been able to get it to work again by just nudging it with a skinny screw driver or something similar.

You Dad probably had a pressure regulator to drop that 150 PSI air compressor to below city water pressure. If you didn't you'll probably have more than one leak.

Replace what was there, that's all.
