Has anyone try to do a consignment to sell their Rv.Had a dealer run it by me but I need to ask what percentage they take.
Figure it would be the best place .
Couldn't find anything on a trade in price so
I am kind of lost for a trade in price to compromise with

Watch any consignment sale contract. I sold a Class A through a dealer consignment and it turned out to be less than satisfactory for me. The dealer was turning down offers I would have accepted, if I had been notified of the offer. Make sure you are involved in setting the asking price, I wasn't. Put everything in writing, I didn't. Also specify how long the dealer has to pay you or your bank if it sells.

Check the web site for PPLmotorhomes.com in Houston Texas. They are the largest consignment dealer in the US. Their home page gives lots of information on the process they use. They seem to have a good reputation with both buyers and sellers. They sell something like 2,000 RVs a year on consignment. The information they provide would be well worth reading IMHO.

They really do not take a commission out of your sale.

You decide what you want out of the RV, they add their commission 'on top' of that price.

They will call you on all the offers. It's up to you if you want to accept the offers or not.

You will have a way much wider range of buyers because the dealership can arrange for loans. A 4sale by owner can't.

AND they handle all the financial transactions. I.E. they take in the money and issue you a check from 'them'. You do not have to worry about scams, counterfeit cashiers checks, and limiting yourself to only buyers with cash.

x2. For me, it was the "hassle-free" aspect. I just wasn't willing to take time away from work to deal with the tire-kickers, looky-loos, and so forth. As noted above, we set the price, the markup was added and thus the sale price was generated. We worked with the consignment place to put a timetable together and agreed that if there was no sale within 3 weeks (IIRC), we'd discuss revising the price. Offer came in 2.5 weeks later that was negotiated to settlement (ended up throwing in the tripod jack for free).

I've sold three different RV's via Craigslist. All sold within a few days and I got excellent prices for them. I would not have gotten as much if I had consigned these same units. Your mileage may vary.

You will be much more successful when you advertise your RV if you provide many quality pictures in the ad, plus a comprehensive description, including specs of, and options on the RV for sale.

Dealers generally are very good about providing lots of quality pictures, but not so good at listing original options and full factory specifications. And the lengths dealers state for RV's, I have found are seldom accurate.

Private party ads, I have observed at least in my area, usually provide very few quality pictures, and usually don't provide anything close to a comprehensive factual description of features and options plus specs. Running ads like this will really limit your response from the public.

Good luck!
