Prodigy P2 or P3 ???

I did a search, but did not find the info I was looking for. Over the years, since 1990, I have Tekonsha brake controllers. I started with the voyager, then to the prodigy once I moved to the 5th wheel. Never had any trouble out of them. When I upgraded my 3/4 ton truck, I used the onboard brake control and at first it worked well, then started having trouble. I replaced it with a prodigy P3. I sold that rig in 2014, and got out of camping for a couple of years. I am now back in with a small rig. I installed a prodigy P3 in the current truck. Yesterday while towing trailer to dealer for recall, I noticed the P3 display was not lit. I assume no brakes, but with a lite camper it was not and issue for a short drive. The fuse was not blown. The controller was warm. I looked online and it seems there have been quite a few issues with P3s dying. I think my first prodigy was a P2, and never had any issues with it. Any recommendations or experience similar to this with P3? P2 or P3? It appears they have the same functionality, but the P2 does not the fancy display of the P3. I will try for warranty replacement, but I am not sure if I saved the sales receipt, of course it is in the camper.

I set the boost setting as recommended by Tekonsha.

As soon as the Prodigy senses significant deceleration the boost is basically no longer active.

If the gain is set as recommended by Tekonsha you will have full braking when stopping. No need to make any adjustments between city and highway.

If boost is set for size of trailer as recommended by Tekonsha and gain set properly you should never feel the trailer brakes when doing normal stopping in city or highway driving.
If you do then the controller is not set correctly.

I have used a P3 since it was first introduced with zero problems.

So you don't change the boost setting when driving slow or on the highway?

Thanks for everyone's comment and suggestions. I went ahead and got the P2 (from Amazon, overnight shipping) to get back on the road (get the TT home from dealer after a recall repair). The P2 worked as I remembered, so I must have run a Voyager, P2, and P3 thru-out my RVing life. I could not find my receipt for the purchase of the P3 11 months ago, so I sent eTrailer.com a message last night requesting a receipt. I received an email this morning with the receipt. I have called Horizon Global twice today for warranty service on the P3. After waiting for 10-15 minute each time I hung up. I have an address for the snail mail route, so I will try it. I figure if I get the P3 repaired, I will either go back to it or have it as a back-up unit.

I have changed the boost but not the setting if the alpenlite had more brake than needed. Usually on a gravel rv park. No problem doing that.

Yes it must have been the boost. Got very sick of needing to adjust it!

Ron it is a one finger hit either way. My guess you used the same finger that your hammer hit during the working years. I love this story.

HAAA, what was scary was going down the highway and have it on campground mode and hit the brakes with very little there. Made for a pucker mark in the drivers seat!

The P3 not only has a clearer, more readable display, but supports individual settings for multiple trailers.

I owned a P2, it worked but I hated having to change the power setting from city to freeway etc. From what I have read the P3 is FAR SUPERIOR!!!
