I have an Atwood propane gas detector in my 15 ft TT. It went off, and I can only guess why. But I'd like some assurance from the knowledgeable. The scenario: door open; screen door closed; burning yard debris about 25 yards away; smoke at times would go toward the direction of the TT, but didn't see it going into it. When the detector sounded, I pressed the test/mute button to mute the alarm. But that was only temporary. I turned off the propane at the tank, and that didn't do anything. The alarm still sounded after the mute time expired. Then I disconnected the battery to reset everything. During this, I turned off and on the fridge and hot water heater to make sure the propane was igniting (and it was). In the evening, when the debris burning subsided, the alarm never went off again. What I want to know is, are these alarms sensitive to smoke as well as propane gas? Like even smoke from a campfire or bbq? Thanks.

If the unit is low on the floor, check your house bstteries for gassing due to a low water level, we had an incident with the first battery in the RV, I checked every propane unit and turned the gas off and still had the alarm beep, I realised it was the battery when I closed the entry door, battery sits under the stairs, also check the connections to the cabin heater, the stove and the water heater if they are in the house portion, the refrigerator is vented out side.navegator

Those things are so sensitive, steam from a shower can set them off.

It could be just faulty. Ours was. We could not even shut it off and had to disconnect it completely. And our RV was less than 2 years old. Of course it activated in the late evening and was so loud that the entire campground loop could hear it. Replacement is less than $100.

even hairspray in another room can set them off. They detect large heavy hydrocarbon molecules, such as smoke, propane propellant in sprays, in even low concentrations when you might not smell it.
Propane is a heavy molecule which stays low, along the floor or ground below where you might not smell the mercaptan.
Check your batteries, or power to them, they also go chirping when the power is low.
Fa--s can set them off, as methane ch4 is a light hydrocarbon, but unlikely. Hope your dog or you never have that big a digestive problem!

X2 I notice mine goes off more often if there is a campfire close by, The dog farting, or if I'm holing my tongue to the left, rather than an actual propane issue.

Sounds like something in the smoke set it off. A lot of "organic" gases will set them off. For example, dogs passing gas.
