The 5 year old el-cheapo OEM vinyl propane tank cover is ready for retirement. I would like one of the polyethylene hard plastic covers, but it looks like it wouldn't fit. I'm shopping from on-line photos, so I can't tell much about the covers. Is there any difference in an ADCO 2113 and a CAMCO 45303?ADCO 2113CAMCO 45303

You can fit a hard cover on it. You just need to slide back the propane tank base. Nearly all are secured with self-tapping sheet metal screws. If you do that, the Camco 40542 is the 30 gallon polar white model.

I think it would have to move back about 2" to clear the electric tongue jack. Then it may be bumping up against the chain lifts. I suspect I wouldn't be able to determine if it would fit unless I have the cover in my hand.

Sadly they all seem to be equally junky.

I don't know it I can make 15" of space to accommodate the poly hard case. I'll look tomorrow. It's just about too cold for me to work outside for more than a few minutes.

The Camco basically needs 1" off your tanks forward and rearward to fit - that's about the depth of the corrugations in the plastic profile that give the cover a friction fit to the tanks and provide rigidity to the cover. There is a mild bulge-out at the top of the cover in the center, both side, but would likely be above the top of your jack with 30# tanks (mine is). If needed, and what I have seen folks regularly do to fit around tall WDH hangers like Equal-i-zer's, you can easily notch the plastic out. To fit between my tongue jack - stupid Lippert design with the enormous plastic head not unlike yours - and my WDH brackets, all I have to do is gently pinch the cover in when I put it back on to slip behind the bracket. On my prior TT where I had an UltrFab tongue jack and replaced the original PVC cover that gave it up after 7 years, the Camco fit with inches to spare! :B

I personally could care less about the rust, especially because your tank will be force-retired at the 10 year mark before you will have enough rust to be an integrity problem, and I'm someone who lives along salt water. What concerns me is that rock kicked up at 60mph or the crushed aggregate falling off the construction dump. Sister's old TT got struck and the 2.5" stone when right through the Filon composite and pierced the inner luan and wall covering! I'd rather not have the impingement on a pressure vessel nor have my regulator taken out. Adding a hard or soft cover give the tanks, regulators and pigtails some protection, and it's always good to keep the UV off the high pressure pigtails and ACME nuts. YMMV, of course.

I'm thinking the cover will keep the road detritus off of them and keep the sun off the hoses.

I don't use one and a lot of people around here don't either. I just keep the tanks and associated hardware painted up nicely.

My recommendation would be Acme (Ok, No I'm not Wiley E) that is Acme Quality Paints rust control enamel.

Paint the tanks and leave them uncovered.

Done it both ways, the covers can trap moisture and promote rust

Acme Rust Control (A product of Sherman Williams) does not trap moisture and reduces rusting.

That looks like plenty of room to me too but as John posted, all you have to do is move a few self tapping screws to move the whole mount back.

Looks like plenty of room to me. As stated above you might have to move the bracket base back a bit. Should be easy to do. Good luck, John
