Protecting the toad

Hello, again. We will shortly be taking our first trip with a toad, have been on 2 other trips with me driving behind. Our toad will be a 2013 Jeep Wrangler. Is it necessary for us to set up some system or guard to protect the front of the toad? I have heard of rock chips in paint and broken windshields however I see people towing a vehicle behind their rv with no additional protection. Does the type of RV make a difference. We have a 28 foot B+ BT cruiser 5250. It does have the stiff rubber bumper guards all along the back bumper that reach almost to the pavement. My husband really likes his jeep and it is in very nice condition with no paint issues. If we are likely to get a lot of paint chips we are going to have to try to use someting to protect it.
Thanks zigpep
  • I think you're worrying too much about weights, etc. I have the biggest BTC and currently tow a Honda Element. It probably weighs about what your Jeep does. It has been no problem. I do have a rock guard that goes across the rig right behind the rear wheels. I've not had any problem with stones or chips. Have had more on the area by the cab doors of the rig from the front tires. I use a Blue OX tow bar; the smaller one not the big one.

X2 A bit pricey IMHO for the materials used and you won't find discount sellers. But easy on and off. Always seem to be a few rock caught in the net after a long day.

I made one from old trampoline material and used it when I went to Alaska and other dirt roads. On regular paved roads I don't use it. I would buy a used car for a towed.
