Question about Equalizer hitch

We brought home our new tt today. TV pulled well with typical gas mileage. When we tried unhitch we couldn't swing the one bar out to drop it, had to keep wiggling it and sliding it straight back until it came out of front connection. Noticed sign on bar said to lubricate that end. This was a new hitch. Does grease come with the hitch? Hitch was installed with 3 washers. Seems to keep tt straight. Need to take to scales now

  • We did lift the weight off truck and bar came off L bracket vertically but couldn't swing bar horizontally to come off of bracket. Socket end wouldn't pivot out. One side did swing out o.k.

  • The WD bars and their sockets are often VERY hard to move on a new Equal-i-zer hitch. The upper and lower surfaces of the sockets should have grease because there is a LOT of metal on metal pressure when the WD bars are tensioned. Equal-i-zer says to put lubrication in that area, and to check the torque on the two bolts that hold the sockets in the hitch head before every tow. See the caution on P.15 and the lubrication recommendations on P.23 in the owners manual. The bars will move easier as the hitch breaks in. What you experienced is not abnormal.

Use tongue jack to relieve tension on the spring bars. They will come out very easy when tension is neutralized.
