Racing in the water

Got to camp in the pits at an event available only in the Pacific Northwest, or Australia and New Zealand. Called sprint-boat racing in the US, it's so heavily attended out here on the coast that the event looked more like an RV city ... there must have been 300 RV's by the end of the races. If interested, check out my story and pictures here.

The RV lifestyle is unbeatable!

And to think the other half can't even tell me we have to turn a mile down the road. And these people do it in inches. Seen these on tv but would love to see it close up. Nice pics and video.

The Sport is more a rural thing, rather than something you see in the cities. So not big crowds as such.

Jet Sprint racing started in New Zealand and then spread to Australia. The first commercial Jet Boats originated in NZ, as a way to get around the shallow sluice rivers quickly. The Sport has now spread to the US.

I met Cara McGuire when she came to our house for dinner a few months ago. She is the navigator with her father the driver for Wicked Racing. They were National Champions in 2011, and were second place this year in the Super Boat Division in the Palouse.

I had no real idea that this sport existed. She invited us to bring the MH to Port Angeles for the race at their course later this year for a bit of special treatment. It looks like fun.

Oh, you gotta go! This had everything - speed, crashes, oohs-and-ahhs from the crowd - and nobody gets hurt. MH's by the hundreds. The sport got started in the US in 1997. Evidently they dig a track in a flat field, 3' deep and 12' wide, then make it comfortable for everyone to enjoy. And Wicked Racing is a fun team to watch! See if you can get a ride!

Here's a link to Cara's Team. She's not like any 2nd grade teacher that I ever had.

There used to be a kid in the neighborhood that had one of those, (or very similar), used to be the terror of the river, but I didn't know they actually raced them.
