We are on the beach at Long Key state Park and yesterday a new rig pulled in beside us.
As they were setting up they let their dog run loose.
It ran around the beach, and then ran into the water.
Then the lady joined it, playing in the water.
The rules that are given out to everyone specifically state No dogs allowed on the beach or in the water.
Another rule states all dogs must be on a leash no longer then 6 feet.
Read the rules folks !v We hosted at a small county park for 3 years! the rules were as stated by the original poster but also had speed limit signs as well as the rule of no off road vehicles.
I had one guy tellme that the speed limit signs were inadequate! the fact is that the county park roads fell under the same scope as county roads throughout the county and the signs were posted accordingly as required for size shape and color! More than one violater swore that there was no rule or sign forbidding ATV's, it was on the registration envelope as well at the registration booth! That with all the other violators would tell me we need a big FRICKEN sign posted! To the op subject. Most who let they're dogs off leash with the 6 ft limit would claim that their dog would never bite anyone and so the rule did not apply to their dog! Famous last words of a fool! OH! And that wa another of the rules that we needed a big fricken sign for! To accomadate all those big fricken signs would have meant the park be all giant bill boards for the rules! REALLY!!!

but it's not your park. the owner's of the park apparently do care. when you open your own RV park then you can make the rules.Lantley wrote:

The fact that the dog was off leash and went to the beach did not offend or upset me. Why should it? Simply because it was against the rules?
it ain't about whether or not you were offended. I bet the park has other rules that, when broken, would offend you and not others. should those rules be enforced simply because others were not offended?
I'm sorry that you see the dog on the beach as a crisis or even and issue.
Other than the rule there was no harm done, no foul.
The whole episode does not upset me when I hear of it on the internet nor would it bother me if I witnessed it in person.
I don't own a campground. I'm there to relax and enjoy myself. I trust the owners have personnel there to enforce the rules so I don't have to.
If the dog is causing a problem I have no problem speaking up, but if the dog is just swimming at the beach I have no cause for concern.
not a crisis but flagrant violations are an issue. we had a name for folks like you when I was working...we called you 'defendants'. ๐

Just a couple cases for the un-informed.
(Reuters) - 11/26/2012 "A California mother and father and their 16-year-old son were swept out to sea over the weekend after a deadly chain of events set off when the teenager jumped into frigid waters to save the family dog from turbulent Pacific Ocean waves.
The dog escaped on his own from the water off the Northern California coast. But Howard Kuljian, 50, and Mary Scott, 54, of Eureka died while their 16-year-old son, Gregory Kuljian, remained lost at sea, said Deputy Ariel Gruenthal of the Humboldt County Coroner's office."
"A 59-year-old man and his wife rushed into the 20-foot surf at Pt. Reyes National Seashore after their dog was dragged in by a sneaker wave. Four hours later, the man's body was recovered. His wife and the dog were unharmed."

Eventually, the dog's owner pulls a gun and shoots the employee in the arm and takes him hostage. Swat team engages in hostage negotiations. Negotiations fail Swat team employs tear gas and Flash Bang grenades. Five sites away an elderly widow is startled by the noise and knocks over her goldfish bowl. Her cat immediately eats the goldfish. The widow has a heart attack and drops dead. Five days later the police do a welfare check on the widow and the cat escapes. The cat, now feral, must survive eating the local songbirds. As the songbird population declines, the rats and snakes that normally feed on the songbirds and their eggs die of starvation. Without the snakes and rats to eat, the few remaining wild California Condors die. Enforcing leash laws causes species extinction.
Sneaker waves grab dogs. Owner's jump in to save their dogs, and often drown. Sometimes multiple family members drown. Usually the dog ends up back on shore, non the worse for the experience, but now ownerless.
