Renewing with Coach Net

We bought our new (to us), Class C almost a year ago. This being our first motorhome I reviewed the choices and bought the basic plan from Coach Net for $79.95. Never needed it in the 17,500+ miles we have put on but felt better having it in place. Now of course the e mails reminding me to renew have begun to flow.

They offered me a $10 "Early Bird" discount for renewing before the expiration date but the new coverage would be their "Gold" plan at $109.95 less the $10 EB discount for a net cost of $99.95. No mention of the basic plan we had, hmmm I thought, what happened to the $79.95 a year plan that we had been on? :h

I called and suggested that they were trying to "up sell" me and I had a problem with that and asked if I could get the same $79.95 coverage that I had last year. After putting me on hold and doing some checking he came back on the line, apologized and said yes you can renew for $79.95. Fine says I, how about the $10 EB discount on top of that for a net of $69.95?

Back on hold for a few minutes and then confirmation that they would in fact renew me for a year for $69.95. Like the man said.... "From sex to sales nothing beats asking. There are only two possible answers, only one of which is bad and if you don't ask, you don't get."

I started with Coach Net since I live about 5 miles from their home office. When I needed them, I was already in American Heritage RV park in Williamsburg, VA. They couldn't find the CG. And you hardly ever see an RV at Colonial Williamsburg, except for the hundreds in their parking lots.
I switched to AAA. Had a flat on my car on the expressway in Cincinnati, where I live. Several hours and many calls later, he finally showed up. Claimed he couldn't find me until I told him to drive down to the foot of Walnut street and look down, and I'd wave to him. I now have Good Sam. So far, their service has been perfect. I haven't needed to call them, yet. Let's say that I'm guardedly optimistic.
Retired and visiting as much of this beautiful country as I can.

So I checked their website. That shows a limited, basic, & premier plan. Totally different options.

Basically the mailer & the website don't sync in terms of plan names & coverages so you really have no way of knowing what you are buying

I was in the same spot this spring, and decided to not renew.

I thought that too.

US Rider.
No ownership of hay burners required.
Covers *all* your vehicles and/or trailers.
(Doesn't have to be a horse trailer)

Thought/s: How many folks own -and transport- horses for, work, show, fun - etc. compared to RVs? (I don't know the answer).

There is only one ERS that will handle a trailer with live animals.

After 9 years as a GRS member, I am taking the plunge and am trying Coach Net. I get a notice from GS stating URGENT.. Your membership expires in a matter of days. No It doesn't, not for 2 months. I am paying 179.00 a year with GS. I saved $20.00 getting CN's best plan. Hopefully I wont have to use it. I used GS once to tow my daughters car to the shop 4 miles away and that was it. Service was great. its all about the money now. If I have to flip flop companies to get the best rates from now on, I will. But I will always have coverage from someone just in case.
Full timing it since July 2012

Just to balance the input (OP here), I went with the $69 Basic ($10 off of the original $79), as it still gives me unlimited towing. I have coverage for our car through Farmers and if the coach is going anywhere I will be in it. My bride does drive it without complaint but she will never take it by herself. We really don't need the concierge service but they still will do the trip planner service for free with the basic plan. This saves me $90 a year by skipping services which while nice to have we simply do not need.

I still think the ERS from Coach Net is head and shoulders above anything you will get from GS and the posts on this Forum continue to reinforce that belief every week. Basically we all "pays our money and takes our chances" but with CN I like my odds a lot better.

As always.... Opinions and YMMV.

Me too. I've never had to use it, but I'm sure to renew it every year. Plus you can use it for all your cars as well.

Same here and it's sort of like insurance anyway, when you need it your REALLY NEED IT. I even also have AAA with the 100 mile towing for just myself for a backup option to allow CN to get me the long distance to a repair facility and they if I want to move I might be able to use my AAA for at least my Van to a repair faciity of my choosing. With everything else the $200 or so per year is "DOWN IN THE WEEDS" so to speak in the overall scheme of the cost of RVing anyway and is just not worth it to me to try and cheap out in this case. After all there is only like $40 or $50 between the lowest level and highest level CN plans I think so that delta is really down in the noise from my perspective.

When I switched from AAA recently because of an AAA problem with our RV, I went directly with Coach-Net's Premier plan mainly to make sure that I was covered as best they offered.

Saving a few bucks to go with a lesser Coach-Net plan didn't seem wise to me, as there's too much riding on getting help when in a broken down RV to not want the best ERS coverage possible for any given provider you've chosen.

realizing that none of them are perfect, after 10+ years of roadside assistance coverage by GoodSam, when time comes to renew we will go with Coach Net .... having gone through ups and downs with the quality of there service, it appears that GoodSam is on yet another downward cycle .... the last time we needed a tow, we were within the city limits of Raleigh, NC and after a couple of callbacks from the GS rep we were told that they didn't have any providers in the Raleigh area that could handle our rig

I called Coach Net tonight to inquire about the difference between the basic & gold plans. Here were the key differences from my perspective in case others wonder:

Basic is for the RV only & for the member only.

Gold is for the RV along with other vehicles & for the member along with spouse / dependent children. Gold also includes concierge service.

So, for example, if my wife is driving the RV by herself & I have basic she is out of luck (unless I could get to her location).

Going with gold.

I saw that the plan brochures are on their website.

Butโ€ฆ

They are for the following plans: limited, basic, premier (coach & towable).

My renewal letter, e-mail, & my account on their website shows I can select from the following plans: basic, gold, premier.

The selections & information about each selection being different in the various locations is the disconnect.

I ***think***
limited in limited towing for example (1 time per year, 75 miles max),
basic is unlimited towing for example (but only for the member which is me - but what if my spouse is driving by herself),
& gold is unlimited towing for example (for me & my spouse - & also other cars besides the RV but we have AAA for that).

VERY confusing!

Finally!!! The only document that matters (the benefit guide) is available on lineโ€ฆ
โ€œIf there are any conflicts between this document and the Benefit Guide, the Benefit Guide shall govern. A Benefit Guide will be sent upon issue of membership.โ€

Representations made in sales brochures, by sales representatives, or the website that are any different mean nothingโ€ฆ

โ€œYou have come to the right place! Based on requests from members and RVers who are (we hope) soon to be members, we've added samples of Member Guides right here for easy access. Click on a link below to view PDF versions.โ€

After a quick review of only the premier benefit guide it seems, the premier has the same short comings as their top rated plan from previous years with a few additions, and the lessor plans have lessor benefits and lessor value than previous yearsโ€ฆ

Interestingโ€ฆ from FAQโ€ฆ

โ€œBasic Membership ($79 per year plus a one-time $10 application fee) - This membership plan provides unlimited roadside assistance coverage for your RV, but does not extend that coverage to any other family vehicles or drivers. This membership also includes our highly-regarded RV Technical Assistance Hotline which can save you time, money, and aggravation by trouble-shooting common issues so you can fix them yourself without interrupting your trip.

Limited Membership ($59 per year plus a one-time $10 application fee) - Limited Membership provides a safety net of Coach-Net emergency roadside assistance and may be a good choice for RVers who do not travel long distances or camp for long periods of time. Coverage is limited to one tow (up to 75 miles) and one other event (tire assistance, battery boost, lockout, emergency fuel/fluid delivery, or winching up to $75) per year.โ€

Desert Captain -

Going through the same renewal process with Coach Net now. I ran into this last year & I am so frustrated with Coach Net I am about to switch to Good Sam. Here's my beef...

I currently have the Coach Net basic plan.

I got the same mailer (& e-mail) you did. It showed basic, gold, & premier as options on the front. On the back is the coverage. Basic is not mentioned there. Gold is the lowest tier showing & it reflects unlimited towing. Platinum is there with a bunch of things.

So I'd like to opt for basic to save the money but I don't know if it includes unlimited towing or that 1 time 75 mile thing.

So I checked their website. That shows a limited, basic, & premier plan. Totally different options.

Basically the mailer & the website don't sync in terms of plan names & coverages so you really have no way of knowing what you are buying.

Last year when I called them on this they told me that they were updating their website. Well here it is a year later & it's still messed up.

What a screwed up company!
