Rude forum members

I belong to several different RV forums and I have never had a problem with rude posters on any other site. This site has about 20 members that are rude and just seem to troll around for something they can get some jabs on.

Over the past several months, I have noticed that if someone asks for OPINIONS on an item, there has to be at least one or two members that wait for several opinions to be posted and then begins to SLAM at least one poster. It's gotten so bad that I am reluctant to express my opinion on anything.

Therefore, it's time for me to depart from this site. I have found it very, very useful, but I refuse to be made feel to feel like I am stupid because of my opinion.

Thanks for all the help that you have given me over the past decade or so, but I'm not hanging around any longer.

Don't spend enough time here to care about non social nonsense.
Those that are that constantly looking for fault and feel superior good luck.
Simply pay no attention and move on.
I don't like trying to find fault and trying to find others to agree with me.
Strange think we never meet anyone like this.
Those that throw their nose in the air when they back their Fifth Wheels in and refuse everyone's wave or attempts to be sociable well.... umping on the complaint wagon and even originating post about something that peeved me once or twice.
Ever the same place with us come on over and have a cup of coffee.
I regret posting about something that got under our skin one in a bit and joining in on complaining.
Bigger sport than fishing, I guess.

Just for the fun of it I am going to un-block those I have blocked to see what mischief they have gotten into.

I tried the block feature once when I noticed someone being rude. Then I noticed I could no longer see any of my posts. :B

It's not difficult to research OPs recent posts to see what I think started this whole thing.

Ok, I'll jump in....... the water feels good!

I think I have just one person blocked and it was from a long time ago. I overlook a lot of stuff now, I guess that just comes with age.

The posts that I learn a lot from are the 'mechanical' posts about repairs or 'trouble shooting'. I'm not strong in that area and learn something everyday.

In life, generally, I find that people who are only children have a harder time accepting change and/or listening to a different view. I'm #5 of 7 children and we had to learn to compromise or we would have lived a very unhappy life.

Many years ago I was in partnership in a retail chain. We had about 60 employees and talk about compromise! When you have to deal with so many personalities, you learn to adjust and listen and teach them to do that same.

One of the best compliments that I received was from an older employee, she said 'Mark, you are one of the fairest people I know'. I think part of that came from growing up in a large family.

Safe travels,
MM.

The Internet in general and forums like this in particular, have allowed huge groups of people to come together as never before.

This is a far cry from the days when a group of guys would sit out on the front stoop, or at the local coffee shop. Those guys were all friends and acquaintances, who agreed with each other more often than not. These forums bring together a huge cross section of the country and society. Disagreements are simply going to magnify as a result. That, plus the insulation of sitting behind a keyboard, instead of having the discussion face-to-face. :B

It does seem to me that we as a people have lost the ability to civilly and respectfully disagree. Something has happened in our society that has created an atmosphere where everyone wants an "Echo Chamber" of their own ideas, listening and hearing only to what one agrees with.

Disagreement is held to be Rude (no matter how civilly it's put sometimes).

I like people who hold strong opinions and beliefs but have open minds and are not intimidated by others that have equally strong opinions. People who can discuss and keep an open mind and actually reconsider their opinions in light of new facts or evidence are the wisest for sure. This seems to be a trait that is rare to non-existant now.

And so we have the Block function. A sure way to create our own little echo chamber, our own group of "like minded" individuals. God forbid should we let our ears become assaulted by new ideas or concepts or opinions we disagree with...good heavens NO! How sad.

And as for those that are just irritating or "snarky" or maybe just have an ironic or wry sense of humor, must one feel the need to block those? Are we so timid? Do we lack any semblance of self assurance?

While I have encountered a very few on this site that I believe are only here to be the class clown I have never read any comment (so far) that has been lewd, offensive or otherwise out of bounds.

The Block function is self defeating. It makes one feel superior. It Insulates. It ultimately Isolates the Blocker not the Blocked.

Just to play "devil's Advocate", if 90% of the members have another member blocked, then that member can be his ornery, crusty, curmudgeonly self without worrying about offending some thin-skinned person. Only those who are willing to put up with him will see his posts!

When I first came on this forum I was a little surprised with some of the posts to folks questions. I agree with the OP there are several members that only want to "slam" others and they really do not contribute much else.

I was about to delete the entire site from my favorites and never return after a couple of them started on me. Then I realized that they were just grouchy old dudes that didn't have anything better to do and I started to kind of feel sorry for them.

To give myself a break from having to read some of their******I simply blocked them for awhile. Try that before you decide to leave the forum for good. It seems like some of these old grouches get their medication adjusted or something and pretty soon you can unblock them and find out they have calmed down again. Then when they start acting up and being rude, simply put them back in your blocked list again.

Some of them probably don't realize it, but when they post there could be 90% of the members already have them blocked so hardly no one is reading their rants anyway.

Indeed! I've noticed several of those who will continue to argue their point even long after the point of being proven wrong, often getting angry and resorting to ad hominem attacks when there was nothing left to argue over.

I had to literally LOL over one who resorted to the definition of what was a "recreational vehicle" for the purposes of defining what vehicles were covered by a certain class of drivers license to 'prove' what was eligible to be imported into Canada.

Thanks, all. I have yet to figure out how to remove myself, but I may give it a while on just blocking them. I can think of about 5 or 6 off the top of my head that are ALWAYS rude or condescending. fla gypsy, I have never noticed you being rude. You may not agree with some of the posters, but you don't get condescending. That's what gripes me.

I belong to 3 other camping forums and I haven't noticed anything as bad as it is on here....maybe I'm the one that is rude!!

You want to see rude, join the Dodge Cummins Diesel forum. Best to not make eye contact over there. Haha.

I agree with you if the "banter", "discussion," or "debate" is done with no personal attacks. Responding to a post with: "You are........" is worthless and adds nothing. Blocking such a member is a good idea.

Respectful discussion helps every one, even if some do not agree.

No one is perfect. Naturally I am human and fail sometimes. Mostly getting snarky after someone attacks me first.

If I offended you ,I am sorry. If it really bothers you I suggest making use of the block member feature. NO matter what...Happy Camping.
