Fezziwig, I tend to agree, with explanation. Our tax code is a product of K Streeters representing their various clients' interests over the years and our electeds failing to represent ours. As I understand it the oil companies pay more than many other major firms, GE and Target have been mentioned as making large profits and paying less/no taxes. I'm of two minds when it comes to foreign owned firms. Certainly, we wouldn't want to see the foreign car manufacturers close their U.S. plants because we single them out for higher taxes. If we limit the discussion to taxes, yes, the code is a mess. I'd like to see even handedness across the board, with rare exception, for profit making companies and a hard look at non-profits, as well. I'll hold my breath if you will. ;)
