I still want to know, in layman's terms, why the heck we EXPORT so much oil, and why the heck we IMPORT so much oil???

We pump oil that is the wrong type to be processed by our US refiners so we mostly export that oil and then import the oil our refiners are setup for. We been doing this for years and never have had enough sense to spend the money to change this scenario. We never do learn until it's way too late.

Set a new fill record of $125 this weekend.

And on another note.... Shell limited my credit card to $75 for pay at the pump. So that is all they get. Kinda lame these days.

Filled up yesterday in Friendswood Tx @ $2.59 for regular. It was $2.69 last week, $2.80 something 3 weeks ago. Seems to be moving in the right direction.

I never can explain why Flying J gives you 5 cents off and is still more than the rest. The big rigs get a deal for buying 300 gallons but why not those
RV's and trucks that buy a lot of fuel across the USA?
The weird thing is most often there is an independent near that gets 10 to 15 cents less and still handles RV's and Truck/trailer combos.
We cruise across the US yearly and also many states and it is the same story everywhere. Once you learn where the better prices are you use them as opposed to the big boys.

Oil prices are a function of supply and demand. Demand was down with COVID, but coming back up. Supply is down due to the US federal lands being off limits now after 75 plus years of supplying about 30% of our supply. The US has shifted from a net exporter to a net importer. The same is true of natural gas. Our local prices have been artificially lower due to a new retailer that is trying to establish themselves and is undercutting the prices. We were running about $2.99 and have dropped down to about $2.87. It is WAWA which is big up North I am told. Nice pump islands and easy in and out for a RV with food cooked on site. Huge crowds there now.

Sure does, when closing down pipelines and oil field areas it sure does effect price. YES these have been recent political decisions.
What functioning pipeline or oil field was shut down?

I am not going to play the word game with you. You are smart enough to know what I said is true.

Some folks here seem to have a short memory...

The pipeline hack and the Texas freeze have done more to impact gas prices than all of the politicians of both parties. Factor in the huge changes in consumption, the serious shortage of qualified tanker truck drivers due largely to the Covid pandemic and you have all the ingredients for the market chaos... and there you go.
