RV Insurance - AAA?

we recently switched the autos, home and the RV to AAA insurance. Been pleased with the home & autos and the overall lower prices, but the RV insurance has been a nightmare! Filed a claim due to hail damage and spoke with 2 people. Each were rude and started the conversation with what they are not going to pay and how they have 30+ years in the RV industry etc, etc, etc. All they do is have you take pictures and they asses the damage that way. One guy told us they only have 3 people in the entire U.S. to handle ALL of AAA claims! Does anyone know if this is true? He said they are overworked and have complained to their supervisor. Their service is very poor & slow and it shows.

Anyone else have experience with them? Had I known they only have 3 people in the entire U.S. I for sure wouldn't have insured my RV with them.

Don't know how hail would have caused bubbles in the roof-UNLESS the hail came down-indented the roof then the bubbles formed.

That would be a tough case to make an insurance claim for. Many roofs get bubbles on them. I don't believe the bubbles means the roof is failing.

You only way to escalate this is too talk to the "higher ups" in the chain at AAA. Any legal action would cost more than the repairs most likely.

Your claim on the graphics are baseless-as per your post they were already worn and peeling.

I brought it up because it wasn't there the last time I was on my roof and now it is. I wasn't concerned about the roof until I saw an RV going down the road with a big air bubble in their roof. just want to make sure it wasn't due to the storm. The decals are obvious to me, they are wiped out. They won't even do a percentage. Your probably right it will take a letter, email or two to the right people before this probably gets resolved.

Reminds me of the time we had a gas leak on our range. The manufacture refused to acknowledge it and I was even told by a representative that her nose was sensitive when she pregnant and that's probably why my wife is smelling a gas leak. It took bringing out the gas company and an email to several corporate and department heads before they actually replaced it under warranty.

I have a feeling this will not be resolved to your satisfaction. Sorry.

The roof already was an issue-and you want them to pay for possible manufacturing defects.

Your expecting alot from your insurance carrier.
  • we received AAA's denial letter on the graphics. They also denied the roof. All I said about the roof was it has bubbles in it now and didn't before. Wasn't really looking for a new roof but wanted to make sure that the bubbles weren't a result of hail damage and moisture.

They said "based on our investigation" (sitting on their rear ends 1000 miles away looking at photos), "...the damage to your vehicle appears to caused deterioration, wear and tear.

The roof has ripples, this is a known issue with Keystone, the RV manufacture. The decals were cracked and peeling and needing replacement prior to this loss." (they were there the day before & now they are not there on the left side).

It pisses me off that someone 1000 miles away can tell me the damage done to my RV and what they will pay without them or anyone else seeing it in person.

From the photos they didn't see the hail damage to the bottom skirt, the outdoor speaker cover, the rain gutter, the weather stripping above the rain gutter. All stuff that was clearly damaged. It confirms my fear that someone trying to assess damage from a photo will miss stuff.

I told them I was going to take it to a couple of local RV dealers and get their assessment. I was told that no matter what the RV dealer said they would still deny parts of my claim. Stanley Davis who claimed to run the largest RV dealer in Northern Arizona said RV dealers will lie to the insurance company to get things for the customer.

What steps does a person take to get this resolved? Contact the State Auditor, Securities and Insurance Commissioner? Better Business Bureau? Several people higher up in the chain of command in CSAA (AAA) insurance?
  • Not sure about Idaho but in Utah AAA insurance writes RV and ATV polices through Progressive insurance. I have the auto's and home through AAA then get 2 separate bills from Progressive for the RV and ATV. Reminds me that I need to do some shopping around to see if there are better rates out there.
  • Some ins. Co. do not employ adjusters. They hire Independent Adjusters to investigate claims for them. When I worked in the industry, we had a number of Adjusters employed but still had to rely on Crawford & Co. when we had a catastrophic occurrence. AAA can access a Adjuster anytime they want one.

I have always said" ya get what you pay for", cheeper is not always the best. We have had State farm for over 56 years, all claims have been taken care of within 2-3 days and very well staffed.
    Good luck

We had State Farm for the autos and they were very good. AAA with our autos and home has provided the same experience as State Farm did. Not so much with our RV.

Take the MH to 2 different body shops and get estimates for the repair.
That way you will know what they should pay.
Or take pictures of every hail dent damage it it takes 100's to get them all.

Sounds like you will need a lawyer to get enough $$$$ for the repairs.

I did just that...contacted our local agent and informed her I want to take it to a couple of the local dealers and get estimates. Not sure how it will turn out though, as both AAA claims adjusters said they would deny part of the claim. She is also checking to see if there really is only 3 people to handle all RV claims.
