Rving and Medicare

The president-elect has now declared on his transition website that he intends to pursue Speaker of the House Paul Ryan's plan to 'modernize' Medicare by privatizing it and passing the increased costs onto seniors, using a system similar to Obamacare.

As the system currently stands, that means that medical coverage will not cross state lines, except for ER visits.

How will this affect the RV lifestyle and industry? Many folks here travel full time, or spend winters in one state and summers back home. Will this be feasible, if we have to pay out of pocket for all medical care outside of our domicile states?

Will you need to adjust your travel decisions, or how much you spend on an RV?
  • How is this post any different from your las one of the same subject, > How will the abolishment of Medicare affect your RVing?, that created 13 pages of arguements? Shouldn't you give it a rest?
  • Has to get through the Congress no matter what and a bunch off them come up for re-election in 2 years.
  • I already have a "privatized" version of Medicare with a zero additional premium United Health Care Advantage plan where the government just passes my mandatory Medicare premium along to UHC. The plan has a "Passport" feature that lets me use plan contract service providers in other states than my "home" state just by letting UHC know where I am. Emergency room and urgent care centers are covered everywhere without notifying UHC. Would this same feature still be there under a revised Medicare system? We'll just have to wait and see what happens...
  • Haven't studied the proposals in detail, but seems to me most if not all of the past proposals made have carved out exemptions for people close to or already in retirement. Typically they propose changes in the systems that would affect future retirees giving the still working younger folks plenty of time to adjust to the new system before they get to the point of having to use them. One thing most politicians are not stupid about is where the votes come from, and the retired crowd is a fairly large, vocal and active voter base. They're sensitive to this and for that reason I'm usually not very concerned about proposed changes to things like Medicare, Social Security, or retirement investments.
  • As far as I know, "emergency" is the only key word when traveling state to state. At least that is what it is for anyone but a full timer. What arraignments they (full timer folks) have to make, (especially the ones with no stick homes) hopefully they can tell us.

With me, one snowbird winter maybe 7-8 years ago, in AZ I got a ingrown toenail. Quite painful. I called my "Advantage" plan for information they gave me the names of a several foot doctors in the area,I looked them up on the 'net, problem taken care of.

    x2 for the Path1 comments.
  • Won't adjust any travel decision for me. Most things in DC start out looking like circle and come out the other end looking like a square.

Why get wrapped up in the unknown?

Read the other day an asteroid may it. And nobody is selling asteroid deflector spray. Obviously no market for it.
