Sans mattress

I used to sleep on floor..flat on my back with legs across a chair seat.

Then I FINALLY had back surgery. Micro surgery/2 inch scar----10 stitches and a band-aid.
That was 1995..........much more advanced these days.

I enjoy sleeping in my bed on my TempurPedic Mattress in my RV and at home

Sleeping on my current TT mattress is just like sleeping on the floor...

I'm glad it works for you. If I slept on the floor, I'd be completely incapacitated for hours. And then in severe pain for several more. :(

I sleep the best in my TT on the 5 inches of foam bed. That is all the bed in this 22 year old TT had for a bed. No springs, no real mattress, just straight 5 inches of foam.

I did replace the foam with new a couple of years ago though.

I have considered throwing my home bed away and doing the same thing in the house.

I also have trouble convincing people to leave my home reclining chair alone too. The come over set down in it and tell me it's to hard. Then they give me a old one of their chairs and tell me it's much better because it's so soft. After about a hour of setting in some soft chair my back begins to hurt. I wonder how many people have back problems, especially in there later years, because they set in too soft and a poorly designed chair or bed in their youth.

I want something firm for both a bed and chair and in a chair I want to set upright not all slouched over with my back bent in a C shape.

The desk chair I'm setting in right now in front of the computer works good for me. I can set in this chair for hours. I sometimes set here and read a book.

My 'recent discovery' of floor sleeping is nothing new as I've always been able sleep anywhere. Thinking back to my tent / PU trailer times and even current sailboat, a comfortable sleeping accommodation was always an issue. Doubling up on stock cushions and egg crate foam was a short lived solution as it eventually led to worse sleep / discomfort.

The obvious direction is to look at custom mattresses or the Froli sleep system, but for now I'm exploring the no mattress solution...

Tent campers have known the solution for decades, it's called a "self-inflating sleeping pad", available in many sizes and thicknesses from companies like ThermaRest and MegaMat, and many others. The many cellular pockets of air inside insulate you from the cold of the ground, and more conductive air, as typically we sleep (comfortably) without heat during the night in fabric enclosures.

Why do so many complain about the mattress in their Trailer. If you don't like it just replace the Da** thing with one much like your house. DW was getting a stiff neck and shoulders shortly after we got the Copper Canyon. Trip to the Mattress store solved that issue.

I think you are missing the point. For some of us the RV mattress , or lack there of, is more comfortable them our house mattress.

Instead of sleeping on the floor you could remove the mattress and put the required thickness of foam that works for you on the raised word platform. I would used at least 2 ins of high density foam.

If sleeping on the floor works for you then that's awesome. You could literally leave the mattress out and put down a thin pad on the plywood bed deck. We bought an awesome mattress for our house...and then right after stuffed the same one into our 5th wheel. Its been in two trailers now and will likely see a third. Best $500 upgrade I have spent. I fondly recall my tenting days but you couldn't pay me to sleep on the ground now.
