Saturn wags behind motorhome

I used to tow a Geo Metro with non power steering. It got into an oscillation (waging violently) behind the motorhome after making a turn so often that I had to bungee the steering wheel at center position. I now tow a 2005 Saturn Vue with power steering and the other day it did the same thing. Albeit I was in a curve going over some rough train tracks. This is the only time this has happened after towing thousands of miles. Hopefully this is an isolated case.
Has anyone had this happen with their Saturn Vue?
  • Not on a Saturn, but if the tow bar isn't close to being level it can cause your issue.
    Look at manual for your tow bar for dimensions on level. Could be something like three inches higher on MH to 4 inches lower.
  • I've only got 8,400 towing miles on mine but "no".
  • I have my 1999 SW2 more than 45000 miles from coast to coast and never experienced any wagging. Steady as a rock back there and I observe in the back up camera continuously. On my rig, there is a pretty big difference in the heights of the tow bar connections and so far no issue with that either. I know that adds some stress to the Saturn suspension during braking and accept that.
  • When this happens !check Your Mirrors,Stop,Back up a couple of Feet. Then pull ahead slowly!
    As long as the Rigs are Straight the problem should go away!
    Happens mostly with Short wheelbase Toads being pulled Round tight turns that change directions ,such as in Gas Stations and Shopping Centers!

    This is pretty much when it happened. It was an s curve with the train track right in the middle. I have to disagree with your method for correcting this situation though. A toad 4 wheels down should never be backed up a couple of feet. I simply pulled over as soon as I noticed it, got out and inspected everything then pulled away slowly until I was back up to speed. All was good the rest of the trip.
