Second Vehicle Fees?

Never had to pay extra vehicle fees when towing my Jeep.

Yes, this is getting common.
I have been trying to avoid these locales, including State Parks in Washington.

All you can do is add up all the fees and see if the value proposition is worth it to you. I've always just added it all up and base my decision on that, not how the charges are established ala carte.

I camp hosted summer's of 14&15 in the Mt Hood National Forest. We never charged for the toad. Our handbook stated "if it was towed into the park" no charge.

We have the truck, toyhauler, and two motorcycles. We've never been charged extra for the bikes.

If towed into the park you shouldn't be charged, if driven in you could be.

The WA State parks I have been to allow the camper and 1 vehicle. We just stayed at Grayland in our Class C a few weeks ago and my wife drove her car in. There was no extra vehicle fee and the office gave us a receipt to post on the windshield. If we had a third vehicle, we would have had to pay a $10 fee.

Yep, that sucks, we always drive a second vehicle as first of all, we don't like to drive the truck to sightsee, second of all we like to have our Jeep to go offroad so we both drive. It really sucks to have to pay for another vehicle but if that is what you want to do, expect it and if you don't have to pay that is a plus.

If you tow behind a MH you generally don't have that problem, just us 5th wheel folks have to pay. Therefore my comment about it sucks!

I have to comment on the 3rd vehicle part, first of all my camping unit does not have the ability to move on its own so to my way of thinking it and the truck is one unit, the second vehicle is like a toad. I ran into this with the BLM folks, they tried to claim the truck and trailer was two separate vehicles, I told him explain to me how that trailer was going to move on its own. LOL!

The NF campgrounds in California generally state that the base fee includes the tow vehicle and 5er/trailer OR the motorhome and towed vehicle. If you choose to bring in an additional vehicle other those combos, then you pay the extra fee. The only exception to this is if you bring a tow vehicle and trailer with 1 or 2 motorcycles in the trailer - as long as the motorcycles come in on the trailer, they are not subject to the additional vehicle charge.

Actually, the MH is subject to the same rule. IF the MH people want to bring their jeep for off-roading and a car for sightseeing, then they are subject to the extra fee - because that vehicle must be driven in, just like your Jeep. The rule basically allows for people to have, at no extra charge, the "usual" setup (vehicle and trailer or MH and toad). Anything above that setup gets charged the extra fee.
