Senior Moments

Well, I had a senior moment today. I left my RV for several hours and returned to find the entry door wide open and latched. My first thought was, "robbery" but the fact the door was latched open led me to believe I simply drove away without closing and locking it. That was the case (fortunately). Nothing was missing and even though it rained there was no wetness inside due to blowing rain.

I think what happened is I exited my RV carrying several items to my truck and in the back of my mind I was thinking of returning to pick up another item. Anyhow, that was a wake up call, reminding me to double check the security of my RV before leaving. I dodged the bullet this time.

How about you? Would you like to share a memorable senior moment in your RVing life?

Packing up to leave a CG, we get all done and hop in the truck. There was a bit of a slope getting out of our spot and the trailer seemed a bit resistant to start moving up the hill. The genious behind the steering wheel (that would be me) figured, just give it more gas.

There was a very load noise and in my mirrors, I could see little pieces of those plastic chocks, flying everywhere.

Did that 3 times when we had a TT.

4x4Bob, I can picture it now. You rolling down the road wondering how long it will take to charge up the battery when your DW starts saying she needs to stop to use the bathroom. "We'll stop in a few minutes honey" as you wonder if it will start again if you shut it off. :B

My only memorable moment was I took the kids to a local beach for the day. At this beach as you pay for parking they hand you a flyer that warns they have a high theft rate and to make sure you lock you vehicle and put away all belongings.

We park the van and go enjoy the day at the beach. Upon return to the parking lot there sits our van with all the doors physically locked, but the drivers side sliding door was left wide open. :S As far as I could tell there was nothing missing, so the crooks must have hopefully been taking the day off. ๐Ÿ™‚

The day before departing on a two week trip with the trailer I am ready at 11:00 A.M. with trailer hooked up and loaded to go.

So, that after noon when it starts to cool off I decide to install some roll down shades on the truck side windows since the first day will be crossing the dessert of Nevada.

To install the shades I need to roll the windows down and inch or so, so insert key into ignition turn it one click.

Then something distracted me and I locked up the truck and went back into the house.

The next morning I can not find my truck keys. Use my Wife's set to unlock the truck.

Yup, key was still in ignition and the battery is dead. So much for a Sears Die Hard battery. Did I mention that we were scheduled to depart on a trip? :E

So, I have my Son pull his car up in front of the truck and we do a jump start.

Then we were on our way. The good thing about this little adventure was that the Wife was in the house and did not see us preforming the jump start.

Yeah, good one. Makes a difference when you stay at a MCG too.

Never unhook the trailer from the truck without chocking the wheels. Never, especially when your your wife is inside the trailer. Never.

Note to self: You cannot stop a 4 ton travel trailer from rolling by grabbing the hitch jack.

we still laff about this.....good lesson

My wife and I are snow birds and a few years ago when we were leaving for our four months in Florida, I moved our other vehicle out of the way so I could get the trailer out.
Once we had the rig out in the street. I put the stay at home vehicle back in the driveway right near the street.
Four months later when we returned I looked all over for the keys for the stay at home vehicle and just when I was ready to give up, I happened to look in it, and there they were right in the ignition with the car completely unlocked.

I have to say, that you must live in one great neighborhood.

Guess the "Bait Car", would not work near your house!

Food, somebody said food. Now I'm hungry. What was this thread about anyway? Must have been about some sort of food. Hope it was low fat, low sodium, hart healthy food. I think I'll go have a salad. What room is the ice box in again?

(Extra points to anybody that remembers when they were called a "Ice Box" and why they were called that.)

Didn't the earliest cold chests consist of a compartment on top of the "fridge" that the owner would pack with a big block of ice which would then keep the bottom compartment at a chilly temperature?

Cheers!

Mike

Yup, In the winter men with big hand saws would go out onto the lakes cut out big chunks of ice and then drag them back to town with horse's. They would pack the ice into sawdust inside a insulated building. Then all summer the ice man would bring ice to your house you would then put the ice in your ice box to keep things cold. I don't remember it. I have seen the ice boxes and I've seen pictures.
