Shower Base Cracked

I have a 2000 Fleetwood Bounder 35' motorhome. I just noticed that a crack is starting to form along the front edge (inside) of the shower. Can I patch this or am I faced with replacing the entire shower? Thanks for all input.
  • My brothers RV shower pan cracked. He ordered a new one, it was easy to replace. And, the new one was supported better from the get go with more supports built onto the bottom of the pan.
  • +1 on adding proper support underneath the shower pan.

The shower on our Class B flexed quite a bit. It hadn't cracked yet, but it would have eventually. So when I remodeled it, I added a platform underneath. It's solid now.

Tear out the shower pan and repair it with support. You won't be sorry.
  • If it's cracked...and the OP seems to have suggested this, the cause is due to poor supports under the base. The fix? Tear it out and brace and replace. That is the only fix, unless the OP can access the base from underneath.

Is the crack just in the gelcoat or has the FG laminate itself cracked? If it is just a surface crack you can us any polyester or epoxy resins like a West Marine or even JBweld. If the laminate itself has failed you will need to reinforce it with FG or screen to restore the structural integrity of the laminate. I would also put several headers underneath the pan for added support. Unless you are very good at FG repair it will not look pretty so I would then add those non slip stick on strips that people add to their bath tub floors to cover the repair.
  • Im pretty sure I know what cracked mine.

I started storing more and more stuff in the shower when moving on down the road to the next CG. Pretty soon I realized I was putting a lot of heavy stuff in there and I am sure it took a bouncing beating from it while traveling.
  • Often what causes the base to crack is lack of proper support underneath that allows it to flex while standing in it. I have had several home showers repaired by a certified Dupont professional.

First he would cut out the section and prepare proper support underneath and then build a new bottom which is much thicker than the original. Always looked like new.
  • JB Water Weld

This stuff is just unbelievable when it comes to repairing anything related to water. You can even repair something 'under' water with it!
    Also it's incredibly cheap too.

Sets up so hard you can file it down if needed. No mixing 2 parts either. Just pull a piece off and roll it in your hand. Feels like clay and when the color changes your ready to patch. Ace Hardware carries it.

I did around my shower drain that started to crack.......4 years ago and still holding strong!!

  • I used an epoxy kit that comes with the screen like material. Our Bounder broke while in Alaska and I did the patch job that lasted until we got back to CA.
  • There are repair kits . We have used them on two different tubs. It is not real pretty, but if you follow the directions, it works well.
