I made the mistake of taking a good tackle box and rod/reel on a charter boat on the bay. every bit of metal was grungy after that.

I think for a pontoon boat instead of expanding side ways to gain some more space, just buy a little longer one without the added weight/troubles, etc.

Putting on my boat owners hat on, I would not be buying a boat with slideouts. The #1 rule in boating is to keep the water on the outside. It is common to see large sections of the sides of motoryachts able to open outwards forming a dock/platform to launch various water toys. These are all hinged well above the waterline.

I was considering getting a boat that I could also use as a RV but to get head/shower/sink had to go 24 to 26 ft IIRC. the main "snag" was air conditioning. the boat ones were cooled by a water flush and I don't think that hated KOA would allow me to continuously pump water on the ground. the boat wouldn't need to be expandable,however.
don't know how a campground would accept a self contained boat RV however.

Slides rarely leak and not nearly as often as roofs. I can see this being the answer to a lot of livability issues on moderate size boats.

Here is the link someone posted above. Wide slide pontoon. is what I call it by watching the video. It's not a slide out, just an 8ft wide pontoon that widens to what looks like 12feet when on the water. Kind of cool.

I found this one, House boat with slideout. this is a trailetable houseboat with slideout. Nothing really different. Instead of wheels you have pontoons. This could be a great dual purpose RV or boat. Since it can do both you have the best of both worlds. Coming from someone that has had a boat and now an RV, this would be perfect!

The slides are only intended for use at Anchor, or Dockside if room allows, like an RV. No link yet, but Sea Ray has started on this trend, but did not develop the trend. That was the Mega Yacht crowd (Sea Ray SLX400) Sea Magazine April, 2017. I have seen many more lately. Some slide and some flip out like a platform.

all the ones I saw were pontoon boats.
