Structures to store/cover rv

Least expensive HARD cover allowed by building codes. Aluminum carports are popular here, and 1:8 slope can handle our usual snow loads, though we've had an ice storm and blizzard that took down quite a few of these structure several years ago, particlarly at marinas and covering docks at the lake.

In most places building codes will determine what you can have, and what conditions it must be built for. I've been in places where only residential type garages, matching the house styles, could be used, then only if they also fit setback and rigth of way codes. A few years ago we had a couple seasons of successful carport awning sales, almost a fad in some neighborhoods, only to have the city make everyone take them down.

One more thing to consider is height of the bottom horizontal rafters. Make sure you build it tall enough inside that if you want to get up on the roof to work on it inside the building, you have a nice 4' cushion or so. Also consider if this is the tallest RV you will ever own. Might be worth giving it a few feet extra, in case the upgrade bug bites and you end up with a taller RV some day.

Check local laws first before putting up something. I know in some areas, putting up a storage tent may run afoul of "no camping" laws, and even an aluminum carport might need to have a building inspector and permit or else the city/county can fine or tear it down.

I like what Bobbo purchased -- an aluminum carport like that would be great here in Texas to protect against UV damage.

Plus, if it is aligned east/west, that is a large space one can install solar panels. Even a relatively small system could come in handy as a way to keep the batteries topped off in a rig while it is in storage. In hot weather like Texas, the solar array could power a couple vent fans so air that builds up in the center of the roof gets exhausted.

Of course, the carport is a starting point. Next comes the sewage "clean-out" (i.e. a dump station), a hose bib, and a power pedestal with a 50A, 30A, and two 20A receptacles.

I had these guys put up one of these carports and am very pleased. It was just under $2000 installed.

I had a local company put up a 41 foot long by 38 foot wide 19 feet center height for my fiver, boat and truck. I chose to leave the ends open so I would not have to back anything in just drive thru. The sides come all the way down to the ground. You don't have to spend a bundle and it will really keep your toys in good shape. It is a metal building.

I like the carport idea. We have 3.5 acres so siting is not a problem.

fabric ones aren’t cheap and prone to early failure especially if left up all the time… most won’t tolerate much in the way of snow loads ro high winds very well…

you would be much better off with a roof over… something like this…

My 2cts. I had been paying a lot of money to park our MH in a garage inside a secure facility. I decided to spend the money on a new garage instead of supporting the other guy. I researched high and low and reached the conclusion the only thing to do was build a new garage next to my existing 3 car garage. The pole barn was a good idea but I wanted all the modern conveniences so I could work inside year-round. Of course one's budget will determine what he does but I'm very happy with the outcome. :B
