  • They can and do work, as long as there is very little wind. Haven't been to Texas in a long time, but every time I was there, there never seemed to be a shortage of hot air movement. :B

I tried one a few years ago.
Texas mosquitoes laughed at it. It was like a dinner light to them.
After three attempts I tossed it.

Cutter's is the only thing I have found that works
  • We had one of those and didn't really notice it was there... neither did the mosquitoes.
  • I know peope who swear by those, but remember you are breathing in stuff designed to repel living things.

It makes my gums and sinuses start to feel numb and weird, just like the stuff exterminators use will do if I stick around where they are spraying. So I turned the thing off.
  • I have used a Thermacell for the past two seasons and love it!! But yes, only works when low breezes. I position mine so in a light breeze the Thermacell is up-breeze. On days with more breezy conditions, I find a fan works well, on our deck or near our coach, that is!
  • Not sure what model Dakota was using but I won't go in the woods without one. Early fall deer hunting or spring turkey hunting would be miserable without my Thermacell. Wish we had Meyer's down here.
  • It has a 15 x 15 foot (or 225 ft) zone of protection. What they don't tell you is if the wind is blowing, you may have a 6 inch by 450 ft zone of protection.
  • I've tried similar ones & that's probably why they are on clearance.

I had no luck with them. If they are used in a somewhat enclosed area, it might work. Outdoors, in the open & if there is even a small breeze it was totally ineffective.
