They damaged our new car installing the base plate

We had our new car into General RV to have a base plate installed. Well two hours later I get the call. We had a slight problem that we're going to take care of. While drilling a hole the tech hit your transmission cooler line. We ordered the part and will fix it tomorrow morning.

So my response was, you're not mechanics and that is a new car with 600 miles on it. You're not touching that and I want it taken to the dealer. Well we can't drive it was the reply. Then call a flatbed out and have it towed.

So I get the call today they won't have it back until tomorrow. Their offer to the help fix the problem they caused is a $100 off a $1120 bill. So I tell them I want it noted on the paperwork I sign that they're responsible for any further unseen damage caused by their
Base plate installation. Their reply was, oh ... That's the car dealers responsibility. I guess you didn't hear what I said, any other damage associated with your install. They were very quick to pass it off to someone else.

I can assure I will go over that car with a fine tooth comb. The funny part (and shame on me for keep coming back there) is. They damaged one of our fivers by hitting it with a new motorhome years ago. On another one years back we took it in for some plumbing work. When I came to pick it up and review the workmanship our refrigerator was Missing. Only a blank spot where it used to be. They screwed up and got the wrong fiver. So it cost them $2000 for a new fridge.

The reason I keep going back is I haven't found anyone better nearby. They have been very cooperative resolving the accidents. But it is irritating. The funny part is I jinxed myself. I commented to my wife after dropping it off. I wonder what'll happen this time.

Not looking to argue but. Three times to the same person is not a good track record, even if he had been to them 20 times before. That is a 15% error rate. I totally agree with you on one point, mistakes happen.

I don't care if they do own up to their mistakes. The mistakes they have made should not be happening at all!!!! Plus these mistakes are to just one person, how many do they make overall then? Not good in my book.

Sorry to rain on your parade but mistakes WILL happen and the reputable shops will limit their mistakes and own up to them when they do happen. Don't ever take your vehicle / camper..... anywhere to have work done because they've all messed up someone's new car, camper at some point more than once or twice.

The op's issue was for sure frustrating but handled very well by the RV dealer. I own a automotive aftermarket shop and mistakes happen, parts don't come in on time..... the list goes on and on. In some bad situations there is NO making the customer happy and even after you go out of your way to make it right or in some cases even better than when you got it they still leave mad....

Our baseplate install cost us about $125. The plate was $250. Little overpriced?

This is a base plate for a car to attach to a MH. Not a fifth wheel. Plate $489 - install $132 hr x 4. It is what is is. I don't have the time to do it, and wanted it done right. I don't mind paying for work to be done. It helps the economy and if it helps the economy then it keeps me working. I could afford to pay, so it wasn't a issue.

I am talking about a car baseplate. Yes, we have a 5th wheel now, but have towed with Class C's, Class A's and DP's. Every single car change cost us right about the same for install. The baseplate varied in cost. Our friendly neighborhood hitch shop did 4 different cars for us over the years! I'm sorry you had a bad experience and overpaid.

It's great your thrifty. It's your opinion I overpaid. However I think in this industry (I checked around before) it's the going rate. No complaints regarding that. To me it was fair. So I'm not sorry. Lot of young people there with mouths to feed.

Has nothing to do with being cheap. Took it to an expert who did the job, without any damage on all 4 occasions, for the right price. ๐Ÿ™‚ Safe travels

Good grief- why? You want them to buy the OP a new car?
