Tire Pressure Question

I currently have a 2012 Toyota Tundra with the factory Michelin LTX/AS 275/65/18 tires aired up to the factory specs in the low to mid 30 psi range. In a couple weeks, we will be picking up our first TT (upgrading from a pop-up where psi wasn't that big of a deal with the TV) which is a Jayco White Hawk 28dsbh, and it will arrive from the factory with a dry weight around 5,700 - 5,800 lbs. I have read posts about airing up to tow, but I haven't seen what the optimum level is. What tire pressure should I run while towing?
  • Weigh the axles use the tire inflation chart for your tires and apply what you read plus 5psi.
  • Looks like your tires are rated to carry a max weight of 2601 per tire. How much weight will be on your tires with the trailer hooked up? If it's not 5202 pounds then I wouldn't take it up to max pressure as that can be as bad as being under inflated. Michelin has an inflation chart for the actual amount of weight involved.
  • Air them up to the max. pressure that is listed on the tire side wall or since they are factory installed original tires - look on the driver's side door jam for a placard and air them to the max shown there.
Sometimes there will be a different psi for front and back tires.

Max psi will give you the max rated payload for your tires.

    Enjoy your new rig.
