Tires on new F150

I'm trying to find out if the Hanook DynaPro 265/60R18 11OT tires have a strong enough sidewall for towing. I have the XLT SCAB w/ tow package and integrated brake. The max payload is 2219#. It has the 3.31 electronic locking rear axle. I'm guessing by the payload that I should be fine with the current tires.

Towing 5000+ lbs. with a F150 and a 3.31 rear end what could possibly go wrong?

Sounds like they installed "P" class and switched to "LT" class

Over at my Suburban forum...a member in Europe had his wife bring their 2500 Sub
in for tires

When he got home, checked that they installed 'P' class.

Took it back the next day and they changed it on the spot

Over there and in Japan...this kind of thing is enforced. If the wrong class
of component is installed...they will boot the vehicle spot on, fine/revoke the
dealer and even jail time if an accident occured

They also won't register the vehicle if improper components are installed

Wish we enforced these things better over here

I don't think so. I trust the shop I work with and their recommendations have always been spot on. They quickly admitted it was a bad match and even though I had the tires for a month, they swapped them out with a full refund and just added the difference.

rhagfo,

It was a set of Bridgestone put on by a local shop. I made one short trip about an hour away. When I returned, I went by the dealer and he took a test ride. When he returned, he appologized and immediately swapped out for the Michelin's and gave me full credit on the others.

Were they the wrong load range?

BenK,

Sorry for the confusion. I have not changed my signature yet. I no longer have the Dodge. The tires in question go with my new F150. I have the 5.0 w/tow package, built in sway and break controller. My payload 2219. I was just asking if I had enough tire to handle the load. My TT in my signature is 5,044# w/ a hitch weight of 578#. I am well within what my truck can handle, I just wondered if I had enough tire (strength) to carry the load. I've already put one set on my Dodge that the sidewalls would roll under on curves. I don't want to get in that situation again.

Just wondering what tires you had on the 2002 2500 that rolled under?

Yep. you are good. You will never load the truck to 8876 lbs. Do put max PSI in the tire when towing.

My bad...just read the title quickly and used your sig...

If you put these on your CTD...they are the wrong class tire and again sorry for
speed reading/answering in my first post on this thread

Spent a bit more time and found a better site with more information on this
specific tire

TireRack.com Hanook DynaPro 265/60R18 11OT

That size only comes in 'P' class. Okay for regular half tons but not
recommended for even the heavy half or HD half ton with 7 or 8 lug
wheels. That and higher class trucks require 'LT' class tires (the
next higher class)

No wonder our bigger truck had the tires roll over. The sidewalls of 'P' class
tires are just not designed for that class of truck. Most seemingly do NOT
notice, and congratulate you for noticing

'P' class tires must be DE-RATED a min of 9% when used on
trucks...the designation "P" stands for passenger car tire. "LT"
stands for light truck tire

But for a regular half ton (7K range GVWR) it would be okay and suggest looking
at what size/load rating that it comes from the factory with

Do note that TireRack.com lists that Hanook DynaPro 265/60R18 as a 109T rating
A bit lower than the 110 you listed

Load range 109 is rated for 2271 lbs each tire at max PSI
Load range 110 is rated for 2337 lbs each tire at max PSI

Either load range should be okay for a regular half ton's rear GAWR, which
ranges from just under 4K lbs to just over 4K lbs

Recommended wheel rim width (bead to bead) for this tire is 7.5" to 9.5" and
suggest going with the 9.5". As wider rims stiffens the sidewall because it will
not have as much sidewall static bend back

Final note: make sure the wheels are rated for this tire's weight rating

110 load range tire is rated 2337 lbs at max sidewall PSI times two
and should be more than your GAWR in order for your TV to stay within
the OEM ratings of that axle

Read that you have a 2002 Dodge Ram Quadcab Diesel, so the rear GAWR
should be north of 6,000 lbs and these tires will NOT provide enough
load capacity. Either go up in size and/or higher load rating than a
110...anything at or above 120 load rating...if your rear GAWR is 6K

If you have a higher rear GAWR, then even higher than a 120 load rating

T speed tire is rated 118 MPH at max sidewall PSI and load

I would inflate them to near max/or max inflation when towing.

The tire load rating is clearly printed on the tire sidewalls.

Tire load is 2337# per tire, or 4674# per axle.

My Hancooks did so well, I replaced them with Hancooks. Only reason for replacement was tire age.
