Toad choice reconsidered

Thanks for the information. I am searching some old magazines I have on autos for various years as well as the forum and found they made front wheel drive only versions and there were 5 speed manual models but not sure of the combinations. Got to use dolly since don't want to configure 4 different vehicles for flat tow. Now the question is did the Honda CR-V and the Toyota RAV4 come in a front, 2WD only model with manual transmission in any years? It would seems that for towing on a dolly without Remco would have to be front wheel drive and manual transmission combination. Thanks


Late thought. if just 2wd which would be the front wheels, if on a dolly than shouldn't make any difference if manual or automatic tx. Right? If so that makes the CR-V and the RAV4 a little more flexible for me. Thanks again

Well Sir,
I cannot answer your questions fully. All I know is, when we were searching for a new toad, we chose the CRV and, because we'd been Jeeping all over the planet for so long, we thought that if, and when, we ever got into a tad bit of slippery stuff, snow, a tad bit of mud, sand or just about anything that needed a tiny bit of help to get through it, we thought we'd opt for the 4wd unit. And, most of the time, the "EXL" models which came with the 4WD, also came with all the bells and whistles like NAV, blue tooth, voice command and much more. The Wife, (and I) likes all that so, we have it.

As for "all years" producing the 2WD and 4WD, not too sure. A bit of research on the net might render all the info you might need. Sorry.

Yes Sir, they do make a two wheel drive CR-V. It's front wheel drive. Ours is the 4 wheel drive version, EX-L model. Both can be flat towed. Both have towing speed limit of 65 mph.

The CRV AWD cannot be towed on the rear wheels alone, it has to be towed either all 4 wheels down or all 4 wheels up on a flat bed.

Don't need 4x4 but do need to be able to tow a 2000 Chrysler Town and Country, a 2007 Honda Odyssey, and a 2007 Toyota sienna as well as the smaller what ever we get, CRV, Rav4 , Jeep 2WD, or 2wd sidekick.

The new 2014 Cherokee 4x4 can be towed 4 down.

There are a couple of smaller 4X4, 4 door trucks you can tow 4 down. Will have to be used as Dodge doesn't make the Dakota and GM is replacing the Colorado and equal GMC. The GM replacements are supposed to be out in 2014 (I think), do not know anything about them though
