Its not just triple A 3 different towing companies Chicago area would not allow our drivers in the ow truck this was in April and May . We called local towing company in Indiana truck and tanker and no problem with the driver riding with him. It seems its up to the company or county what is being enforced

Slightly apples/oranges comparison, but Enterprise Car Rental has temporarily suspended their policy of "picking you up" when renting a vehicle. Found that out in October when my wife was involved in an accident and our car had to be towed. Fortunately she was only 2 blocks from home. GEICO booked a rental for us, had our daughter drive me to the Enterprise office the next day.

Seems this is Triple A policy for a while... When I called in mid October the operator said the same. Had an issue in a rural part of Utah. Driver said it was up to him if he would allow passengers. We rode with the driver without hesitation. Great conversation on our trip back to repair shop.
