Tow Bar Receommendation

For an update - I found a Blue Ox Aventa and an RVi brake 2 on Craigs List for less than the cost of a new Dominator, so I went with that. Got it from an older fellow had to give up RVing.

I'll do some research to see what needs to be done to make it like new besides a fresh coat of black paint.

Every choice is a trade off, so the strength of the tow bar would be more important to me than weight, therefore I chose the Demco steel tow bar rated at 10500 lbs over the lower rated aluminum version. This bar is 16 years old and has 100k miles of towing. I took it apart twice to clean it since new and has always locked for me. If you require tow brakes and don't already have them I would go with the Ready Brake system.

^^^^ Now There's ^^^^ Excellent Advice! Our gear is all Roadmaster, base plates for two toads, and the tow bar itself. We only bought one base plate new, the rest used. Base plate from eBay, Tow Bar CraigsList.

Since "ends" are available to match tow bar brand to base plate brand, I strongly endorse STB's note about installation. By reading the Install Instructions available for every specific base plate, you can determine How it will Look, the attaching Height, and how Invasive the installation is. Makes for a much more intelligent choice.

If you decide to install your own base plate, let us know what you decided on and we might have some tips.

We looked at Blue Ox and Roadmaster both. We went with Roadmaster because the baseplate installation on our Edge required less cutting of the front facia and active shutter system. Since you have the Blue Ox baseplate, it would seem logical to get the Blue Ox tow bar since there would be no need for end replacement. If you want the supplemental braking incorporated int the tow bar, the NSA tow bars can be ordered with Blue Ox ends.

We use NSA's aluminum 8,000 lb rated ReadyBrute Elite tow bar with our Blue Ox base plate. The ReadyBrute Elite has an integrated auxiliary braking system that's quite effective and pretty much trouble free. I have no problems hooking solo...

I'm using a Blue Ox Aventa LX BX7445 to pull my 2016 Wrangler Unlimited. It's overkill for a 5,000 lb hitch, but they didn't have the lower weight rated one in stock, so got mine for the lower price. It's rated for 10,000 lbs. Easy to use, all steel, works with Blue Ox BX1134/BX1126 baseplates (go figure?).

I too have a Roadmaster towbar. My last car had a Blue Ox baseplate, and it was easy to change the ends of the towbar to Blue Ox ends. Don't know much about the Demco, but if you are buying a towbar (in my case when I got the Blue OX baseplate I already had a Roadmaster towbar) I would be inclined to go with the Blue Ox towbar. It is a dependable durable towbar, and any questions concerning your entire hookup would involve only Blue Ox.
